Liefling keen to make Bulls comeback

Derick Hougaard will not return to his English club Saracens as he plans on sealing a contract with the Bulls.

Hougaard was already turned down by the Pretoria union in November last year by then Bulls director of rugby Heyneke Meyer as the player wanted to return home. His on-going Achilles injury, that stretches back to 2010, was the reason for the snub.

However, the 29-year-old told Rapport that he won’t return to his current club Saracens in England (who he joined in 2009), even though he’s signed until May – the end of the European season. He has received sponsorships from local businesses to settle in South Africa again, and has been carrying out the final stage of his Achilles rehabilitation at the Bulls with conditioning coach Basil Carzis.

‘I’m very excited about the new development, because now I can stay at home on a permanent basis. I hope to get the green light to play again and I am confident that my talks with the Bulls will be positive and my career at Loftus Versfeld can continue,’ said Hougaard.

Rapport said it was an Achilles tendon injury.

Anyway, there is a possibility he might never recover, so we’ll see what happens first.

Not really excited about this. What message will this send to guys like Fouche and Cronje? Let him go play for the Pukes down at the Kings!

    That’s news
He was sidelined as I recalled for a calf injurie?
The odds that Morne Styen will get injured are NIL, and the Bulls know these odds

    Please god no.

    Besides Fouche looks the business.

He kicks like a mule that’s just been poked in the bollocks.

@the artist formerly known as gunther(gunther)-7: That one clearance that he kicked actually made me consider that maybe I’d had enough for one evening.

The Stormers game, of course, made me start drinking again.

Cronje is gone for the year, Steyn will be with the Boks. That leave us with Fouche. If Hougaard can recover 100%, he will be an asset for the Currie Cup. Fouche can even move to 15?

@Tjokker(Tjokker)-13: Hulle sal hom vinnig fiks kry. Sal Morne ook meer ruskans gee. Fouche is goed, maar nog bietjie wisselvallig met sy skopwerk. En mens weet nooit wanneer iemand beseer word nie.

if he’s happy to sit on the bench or even just provide the comfort of knowing there’s a backup kicker in the wider squad then i see no reason why not.

@Tjokker(Tjokker)-11: Why would Steyn be with the Boks?
