John Mitchell is overrated. He has done far less than Eloff but with more resources. Nothing of note.

@bokfan1(bokfan1)-41: You are right de Jongh has been one of the better players. The entir backline is stale and there is little real innovation in what they are doing. Coetzee's problem is that he comes from the perspective of old school rugby, you can see it in a number of plays that Jean runs for the Stormers and under Jake's era. He simply isn't good enough. A lot of quality wasted in that side.

@Hondo(Hondo)-44: The Highlanders pack is top of the pile alongside the Bulls. They have a very formidable backline too. The Chiefs have explosiveness all over the field and threw everything at the Brumbies. The Force may be more humble opposition, but still a quality side that was a tough challenge for a Brumbie side effectively taking a standing start. The Cheetahs game was more fortuitous in the end, both side had opportunities to close that game out. So no, they have faced a steep set of challenges so far.

@cab(cab)-38: Brumbies have that talent. To soak up that Chief's onslaught and handle the Highlanders big pack is nothing short of exceptional. still underrated, and stil a lot of very sour views on here though. I don't understand what Jake has done to warrant such vitriol from South Africans. The rugby world respects him, and that is a much better and more realistic impression of him. Not a messiah, but a highly astute coach that is never too big or successful to learn from even the most lowly of people. That demands respect. You are quite right though, the wheels may yet come off for te Brumbies, as it may for the Bulls, Highlanders, Chiefs, Stormers and a host of others. But what they have done already is no fluke and it would be an even bigger shock to me if they failed rather than succeeded in the remainder of their campaign.

I cannot understand what Coetzee did in order to receive a contract extension for another 3 years. I can only assume that there is that much chaos going down at the WPRU headquarters that it was just easier to extend his contract rather than go through the processes involved in securing someone new.

Well Well Well! Is there a great reconciliation on the cards between Keo and Jake?
Well done to Keo to complimenting the coach even if they had personal differences.

Keo – if you knew you said “Cooper” why didnt you just re-shoot the clip?

I must say I disagree about the Stormers woes being AC’s fault. There is no way a coach will coach a team to play for the first 15 min and last 10 mins!
I am a Stormers/WP fan and I am not happy with this season so far. It is deja vu of last season – winning but not convincingly and no bonus points.

Jean D V says the SAME things in every interview. Any Stormers player should by now know that they tend to 1. Defend a lead and 2. Go to sleep. Their supporters know it! So how can the players not?!

A player like De Jongh has brought some spark into the midfield – he somehow finds a gap or a space to go forward 90% of the time. But the Stormers dont keep the ball, they keep kicking it away far too often and aimlessly. That I will say AC needs to remedy, but I wouldnt say he hasnt learned anything in 3 years.

@keo(keo)-31: I doubt he will ever appear for the Wallabies while Pocock is there owns the jersey, he is tried and tested and until we see how good Hooper is against the likes of McCaw or some of the crazy big loose forwards that the Saffer teams bring I think I will be a little sceptical. As good as Hooper is it is a long fight ahead of him if he wants to take the take his position in the starting line up from Pocock.

reckon brumbies are far from a formidable team, but he's def made them compeitive, they need talent to be formidable, same as lions @HHS(Hop Hop Spinnekop)-7: thats unbelievable, must be about 8 first class players out now - must say tho thought the young LH prop did exceptionally well, works incredible hard, he and cilliers got through an enormous amount of work. the one lock seems pretty useful also, greef.

Wayne Smith, the New Zealand attack specialist tipped for a role in the England set-up, expects Stuart Lancaster to be given the full-time head coach’s job.

Lancaster, who led England through the Six Nations on an interim basis, and Nick Mallett were interviewed by the Rugby Football Union yesterday, with deliberations expected to continue today.

Smith did not apply for the head coach’s job, but he is keen on a return to international rugby, having helped the All Blacks’ World Cup triumph last year alongside Graham Henry and Steve Hansen.

“I assume Stuart Lancaster will get the England job. I also assume he will be able to get Andy Farrell out of his Saracens contract and keep (Graham) Rowntree on board,” Smith said.

“That is what I think will happen, but it is win-win for England at the moment because I also have huge respect for Nick Mallett’s abilities. I await the puff of smoke with interest.”

Smith, who is seen as one of the best attack coaches in the game, has put on record his interest in working with England. He coached alongside Mallett in last year’s Help For Heroes charity match at Twickenham.

Press Association Sport understands he has not had any contact with the RFU.

“I have been asked, with reference to England, if a number of strong coaches can work together,” Smith wrote in a blog on http://www.therugbysite.com.

“It can work, but your beliefs and philosophies need to be aligned.

“Could I work with Lancaster? I don’t know the man, I like where I am at the moment, but I respect what he has achieved. And is that question the right way round?”

Smith praised the work Lancaster did during the Six Nations in rebuilding the England team following their failed World Cup campaign.

But he believes the next step in England’s development is to create an attacking system that would test the best teams in the world.

“Stuart Lancaster has done a hell of a job in his short time as national coach,” Smith said.

“If I was an England supporter I would be pretty excited.

“But Lancaster will know that as far as England have come, they will have to keep improving if they are to compete with the southern hemisphere.

“I think that they play South Africa four times, New Zealand, Australia and Fiji before the end of the year. They won’t beat those sides just smashing the ball up. They will need an attacking strategy by then and they will need alignment with all the coaches and players.“
