Star sevens playmaker Cecil Afrika has been ruled out of the Tokyo leg of the series with a knee injury.
Afrika sustained the injury in last weekend’s Hong Kong tournament and is replaced by Renfred Dazel. Dirk Dippenaar has been called in to replace Bernado Botha. However, Botha may yet be involved if Paul Delport doesn’t pass a fitness test on Thursday.
Coach Paul Treu said his team will look to build on the positives they drew from Hong Kong. ‘We were clinical against Samoa and against England we did well to shut them out,’ he said. ‘Our focus will be to maintain that level of intensity and to keep the mental focus. We made the same errors in our two losses against New Zealand, which is hugely frustrating. If we can learn from that and not over-commit ourselves at crucial times, then we will play much better.’
