Lions target former Bull
29 Mar 2012
JP Nel, a former Super Rugby winner with the Bulls, could be brought into the Lions squad.
Nel recently completed a stint in Japanese club rugby and is currently not contracted to any team. Beeld reports that the Lions have already contacted him about the possibility of joining the Johannesburg franchise on a short-term contract.
John Mitchell’s charges have been hit hard by injuries this season, especially in the backline. Centre Doppies la Grange was recently ruled out for three months and a number of other key players are unavailable.

Always thought he was a good player.

Rumors are false.

@HHS(Hop Hop Spinnekop)-2: I hope you`re right.
JP is a walking red card. Does Mitchell know about his history, how he left the country in disgrace ?

Carthorse at 13.
Home affairs moves faster than JP Nel.

money talks.
but if he’s looking for work i suppose he wont be asking for much.

@Original-Pierre(Original-Pierre)-3: My girlfriend said it’s false, and she is always right.
I wouldn’t say he left in disgrace. He is/was a vuilgat and his history didn’t help him when he was involved in minor incidents where some people would only get a penalty against them and he will get a yellow or suspension.
He also said that he will never play Super Rugby again….. but the rumors are false.

Cant believe this oke and Jaco VdWesthuisen have S14 medals.
Dont mind anyone else winning the thing but those two are the biggest clowns to have set foot on a rugby field.

Please let it be false. This guy and his bionic arm guard must stay the fck away from the Lions.
29 Mar 2012, 10:11 am
hmmm, the lions need some centers, but I would at Europe and not Japan. The lions also need to start winning games or they could face being relegated to make room for the kings.

lions are soooo desperado to be courting jp nel
29 Mar 2012, 10:16 am
butch & jp nel @ 12 & 13 for the lions, they will be unfcukwithable!
mitchell will have to start running practise with 13 men on the field
29 Mar 2012, 10:26 am
And to think they chucked away Mjekevu. They are mal!!!
29 Mar 2012, 10:27 am
@Transformation(Transformation)-10: Hell, even Bobo will do a better job.
29 Mar 2012, 10:38 am
He had a few dirty incidents but he was an effective player at the Bulls.
29 Mar 2012, 10:53 am
Was a very good performer for the bulls.ended Maris joubert back in 2005.
29 Mar 2012, 10:54 am
Why dont the Lions get Adi Jacobs ? He is available ? Cant be worse that JP
29 Mar 2012, 10:55 am
Would it not be great of the Lions can lure Jaque Fourie back to JHB ? Pity the odds of that happening is about the same as Xkreni-WP wearing a stormers jersey at Newlands.

JP Nel has a history of unlawful / vuilgat / duik-my-dat-ek-k@k tackles. He was not the fastest or the most intelegant centre in the world BUT he behaved himself in his last season with the Bulls and due to his previous record was unfairly suspended for one 50/50 tackle – even Stefan Terblanche confirmed in the hearing that it was not dangerous.
Does anybody know how he performed in Japan? No, you don’t. Just MAYBE he performed well and learned his lesson. Butch was in the same situation and improved a lot. As a Bulls surporter I hope that it is false
Doubt it if Sadie will stay for 80 minutes on the field against Butch / JP
29 Mar 2012, 11:40 am
JP Nel back?
Now all 13′s start to **** in their pants.
29 Mar 2012, 11:46 am
Jeez okes.
Isn’t one of the Rose brothers available??
Come on guys, get creative.
29 Mar 2012, 11:53 am
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-20: earl rose is registered as with Sanzar as Flyhalf reserve for the Stormers, since last year already
29 Mar 2012, 12:02 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-21: I think he’s been released from his contract.
Besides there are a couple of roses running around.
If I were Mitchell I’d be trying to get hold of Adrian Jacobs.
29 Mar 2012, 13:11 pm
running out of players?
whats happen to development pograms?
29 Mar 2012, 13:45 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-20: @Transformation(Transformation)-21: Both are available, playing club rugby in the Western Cape.
Earl for Sir Lowrians RFC, Jody for Helderberg RFC.
29 Mar 2012, 14:10 pm
I think this more a case of an oppurtunistic agent that wants to cash in on the Lions lack of depth.
29 Mar 2012, 14:21 pm
@Taahirah(Taahirah)-24: Well there you have it.
It will be like a high school reunion.
29 Mar 2012, 14:23 pm
Wonder how Dylan Des Injuryprone’s rehab is coming.
When he’s fit he can be quite a good player.
29 Mar 2012, 15:37 pm
clearly not a wise move in terms of John’s standards
-JP was a reject at his japanese team and all the other teams
-in my understanding the Lions are broke why waste money on him(ROADLINK BUS)?
-in his own words”i’m never going to play rugby”SUPER”ever again”
-besides his destination was france.
i’d rather opt for a player like Stefan Dipp he has improved bigtime since joining sevens
