Saints skipper gets hefty ban
30 Mar 2012
Northampton Saints captain and lock Calum Clark received an eight-month suspension for serious foul play.
Clark, who is in England’s elite squad, was found guilty of hyperextending the right arm of 22-year-old Leicester hooker Rob Hawkins in the LV Cup final a fortnight ago. The latter left the field injured with a broken elbow.
The RFU slapped Clark with a 32-week ban that will run from 22 March to 1 November. This will only see the player return to action in the next European season.
Clark is the second Northampton forward to receive a lengthy suspension this week after England hooker Dylan Hartley was found guilty for biting Ireland flank Stephen Ferris’ finger during a Six Nations game on 17 March. Hartley will sit out for eight weeks.

@houston, we have a problem…(i_love_u_bakkiesbotha)-1:
Yeah, he should have receieved a much worse ban. 2 years at the very least.
To me, what he did to that bloke is far worse than taking bannned substances which you get 2 years for.
That poor bloke whos elbow he snapped will more than likely be out of Rugby for more than 8 months.

Considering his complete aggro brainfarts a few years back in the junior WC, he should have been banned for a few years, if not for life. Deliberately breaking an opponent’s arm? Should be charged in court.

Also not surprising to see Hartley with a suspension. Guy has been a renowned cheap shot artist for years.
Have your say
