Joubert eyes England jersey
2 Apr 2012
Ernst Joubert will become eligible for England in June and has expressed his desire to play for his adopted country.
The former Lions captain has been playing for Saracens since 2009. At the end of June, he will become eligible for England on residency grounds and will thus be available for selection in the November internationals.
‘It’s out of my hands totally but I would very much like to be considered by England, which is my home now,’ Joubert said. ‘I love it here, I have played my best rugby here and my part of the equation is to be fit and to be playing well enough to maybe be considered.’
Two of Joubert’s South African-born team-mates at Saracens, Brad Barritt and Mouritz Botha, represented England in the recent Six Nations.

Really feel this rule of allowing to play for another country be changed from
3 years to 5 years.
We lose far too many players from SA.
Anyhow all the best to Joubert.

With all the Loosies we have in SA I think he made the right move.

Joubert is playing great rugby at the moment. We have too much depth in the loosies for him to make it here, but England’s squad is not so hot and he may have a chance. Best of luck to him.

Such bad journalism,Matt Stevens was also born in Durban,attended D.P.H.S. and Kearsney ,both with Brad Barritt.
He was also in the same England side as Barritt and Botha,three Natal born and schooled boys.
Hell man if you are going to be a rugby writer ,get your facts right.

Google is a wonderful tool,now if we can just teach Cardinelli how to use it.

Hard working player, but he was never going to realistically challenge for a Bok spot with our loose forward depth. Best of luck to him though.

Good luck Joubert.

Living it up,isn’t our Ernst? Having Minki as your bedmate is enough to make the English weather most bearable.

Very good and underated player, but realistically he is about 31 or going on 32 or at least on the wrong side of 30 so even if he does make it to the England setup cant see him sticking around for that long.

@pat1(pat1)-13: The English are not afraid of picking senior citizens.

Any country that’s happy to have Spies as incumbent number 8 should be sad to lose the likes of Ernst Joubert. Spies is a joke as he proved yet again on Sat. Was nowhere when it mattered most.

@Puma(Puma)-1:
Njet Puma, you can not deny a player the chance to play internationally in what is a very short timespan. I would go the other way and cut it to 18/24 months only.

@UK Bok(UK Bok)-15: Hey, don’t be mean to poor old Spies. He’s discovered a new trick, he turns in the tackle.
So now he spins before going nowhere and doing nothing… looks even more impressive and is sure to earn him a Bok call-up!

@lepel(lepel)-17:
Don’t forget the white bandage around the head helping him to stand out further…
