Cardiff sack Henson

Former Welsh international Gavin Henson was dimissed by the Cardiff Blues with immediate effect after being involved in alcohol-related incidents.

Henson admitted that he had been out drinking after the Cardiff Blues’ 31-3 loss to Glasgow. He carried on drinking on the team’s flight the next morning and caused a disturbance during the return trip.

The player was first suspended following his antics after the Cardiff Blues’ 31-3 loss to Glasgow over the weekend. Henson made a public apology, but the Welsh club confirmed their decision to sack the 30-year-old centre. The airline Flybe have also launched their own investigation into the matter.

The official statement read: ‘The Cardiff Blues management have discussed the matter at length but have acted swiftly since the incident occurred on Saturday morning.

‘Gavin admitted himself that his behaviour was totally unacceptable and the immediate termination of his contract sends out a clear message that behaviour like that will not be tolerated at the Blues.

‘We have a duty to our supporters and sponsors to protect the good name of Cardiff Blues and those associated with our brand. Gavin Henson is obviously a talented rugby player and it’s unfortunate that his career at the Blues has ended this way.’

This was Henson’s fourth club in a little over a year after he had short stints with the Ospreys, Toulon and Saracens.
