Willie le Roux and Lappies Labuschagne have finally been rewarded with spots in the Springbok training group. They are two of eight that are first timers in Springbok training groups this year. The others are Gio Aplon, Trevor Nyakane, JJ Engelbrecht, Lionel Mapoe, Wiehahn Herbst and Demetri Catrakilis. The group of players will assemble in Durban for the second training camp of the year, before the final squad for the Incoming Tours is selected. Players not considered due to injury include: JP Pietersen, Jaco Taute, Frans Steyn, Johan Goosen, Duane Vermeulen, Pat Cilliers and Frans Malherbe. ... Read Article25 May 2013
Morne Steyn kicked 18 points to beat the Sharks and end the hosts Super Rugby play-off aspirations. The Sharks looked to have conjured up a remarkable victory when Charl McLeod scored and Pat Lambie converted in the 75th minute. But within two minutes the Sharks were guilty of a lineout infringement and Steyn punished the lack of discipline. The Sharks had opportunities to sneak the victory in a frantic finish but lacked the decision-making to turn a possession and field position advantage into victory. The Bulls, thanks to Steyn's kicking, consolidated their position at the top of the ... Read Article25 Apr 2013
Jan Serfontein, the player of last year's under 20 World Championship, will head the baby Boks defence in France. Serfontein and Kings wing Sergeal Petersen are two Super Rugby regulars to make Dawie Theron's squad and brilliant flyhalf Handre Pollard is another to play in a second successive tournament. Theron's squad lost a three-match series 2-1 to Argentina in Argentina. Serfontein, Petersen and Western Province's Cheslin Kolbe did not play in those matches. Bulls loose forward Ruan Steenkamp is captain. Serfontein and Pollard are the only two squad members from last year's ... Read Article14 May 2013
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has selected several uncapped Blues players in his training group. Hansen confirmed 38 names and this included many from the potent Blues backline. The Highlanders, despite only winning one match in this year's Super Rugby competition, have six players in the group. An obvious area of weakness is at hooker where Hansen has selected veterans Andrew Hore and Keven Mealamu and Canes Dane Coles. Options are limited and it certainly is a concern for New Zealanders. No overseas-based players were considered, as it is NZRFU policy. Among the uncapped players ... Read Article15 May 2013
French coach Philipe Saint-Andre has included three South African-born players for the three-Test series against the All Blacks in New Zealand. Racing Metro flank Bernard le Roux and Clermont prop Daniel Kotze join Antonie Claassen in a squad that includes eight new caps. Fijian-born Clermont winger Noa Nakaitaci is among the newcomers. Saint-Andre has rested flyhalf Francois Trinh-Duc, but included Toulon's Frederic Michalak. France play world champions New Zealand on June 8, 15 and 22 in Auckland, Hamilton and New Plymouth respectively. French super club Toulon's foreign dominance ... Read Article5 Mar 2013
MARK KEOHANE writes the Varsity Cup in its first year rocked. Since then it's just another professional tournament. The Varsity Cup may have the innovation of doing a few things differently, but what was supposed to be a celebration of student rugby somehow just seems like another tournament, in which the traditional power houses remain the traditional strengths in the tournament. Much has been made of the Port Elizabeth-based Nelson Mandela University display this season and equally there has been bewilderment at how poor Shimlas have been. But it seems the old one two of Stellenbosch University ... Read Article12 May 2013
Marcus Watson scored in extra time to beat the Blitzbokke in the London World Series Sevens Cup quarter-finals. The teams were level 14-all at full time. Watson's try came four minutes into extra time. England won 19-14. England had the chance to win the match with the last play of the game in normal time. They were awarded a penalty and opted to take a drop kick for goal. It missed. Watson then rounded off a move after England had retained possession for two minutes. South Africa suffered further embarrassment when they lost for a second time in the tournament to the USA and were eliminated ... Read Article8 Jan 2013
Limpopo will play in the Vodacom Cup as a separate side for the first time this year. The region, which is a sub-union of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, has been granted a place in the tournament in its own rights to help foster rugby in South Africa’s far north. They join the 14 provincial unions as well as the returning Pampas XV from Argentina in the tournament, which kicks off in the second week of March and concludes in mid-May. The Polokwane-based Limpopo team will play in the North Section of the competition, along with the Blue Bulls, Golden Lions, Griffons, Leopards, Pumas, Valke ... Read Article3 Apr 2012

Shame, you’re so insecure about your age.
Rather stick to the rugby news next time.
Work to do, later

3 Apr 2012, 09:47 am
@Transformation(Transformation)-41: The hype Meyer created was obviuosly to get his signiture. However the impression was also created that JJ was sort of part of a package deal and that Sadie was the big signing.

The assshaompooist probably voted on each of his Nokia 3110′s.

@the artist formerly known as gunther(gunther)-62: i’m hoping this won’t be too much of a political discussion, but does the ruling party ever consider that some of it’s supporters will desert them? Or is it a case of a blind loyalty, because of the anc’s role in the end of apartheid. Will their supporters livelihood supersede that loyalty?
One could almost say they are trying to de-stabilise the country.
3 Apr 2012, 10:04 am
@Dawn(Dawn)-63: happy birthday dawn. If it weren’t for you and a few other of the fairer ***, this blog would be 1 huge sausage fest and might just play into the hands of some of our contributors.

@Mr Black(Mr Black)-56: Hahaha not the voting type. besides I’m not the unrealistic type either.
They can win all the games, but will they? Unlikely.
Hurricanes and Saders will be the toughest.

Dankie mense.
3 Apr 2012, 10:15 am
Well pompies the Zumanator says they will rule until ***** comes.
That’s the kind of arrogance and sense of entitlement we are dealing with here.

3 Apr 2012, 10:21 am
@pompies2(pompies2)-65: no they don!
you think mugabe thought someone would actually organised labour against his political elite and well fed soldiers & cops?
they actually believe it won’t happen “iANC izakuphatha kude kubuye uYesu” and they’ve turned into quite astute propagandists.
3 Apr 2012, 10:24 am
@the artist formerly known as gunther(gunther)-69: would it take a single event, like it did in Tunisia to ignite our ‘arab spring’? Would there be a homogenized effort to create a meaningful resistance to bring about positive change? or will it be each man for himself?
I’m not as skeptical as Tac was last week about barricading yourself in, the dam wall is taking some serious strain and will burst if the strain is not lessened.
3 Apr 2012, 10:28 am
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-67:
Just joking buddy, i voted for 4 wins by the way.
Yes they can!
3 Apr 2012, 10:30 am
@pompies2(pompies2)-74: where was the zimbabwean “arab spring”?
3 Apr 2012, 10:31 am
This Gunther is a real sour peos.He got his pink a rse kicked on Saturday, now he sets his sights on the government and Zuma….on a rugby blog.
3 Apr 2012, 10:31 am
@Transformation(Transformation)-73: Trans, how do black people, in general, feel about the value of their vote? Is it always a case of black vs white? If so, why do the IFP not get as many votes? Are there undercurrents of inherent tribalism, on a subconscious level, which influence those decisions?
3 Apr 2012, 10:32 am
I don’t know pomper.
It’s pretty much the story of Liberation movements across the continent.
The “it’s our turn to eat” mentality is universal.
The problem is due to cadre deployment avery single segment of our society has been politicised and is controlled by a mendacious political elite.
People are starting to understand that this and general lack of competence are behind the lack of progress.
What the tipping point will be who knows.
Will the people of south africa be as docile as our cousins across the limpopo?
3 Apr 2012, 10:34 am
@Transformation(Transformation)-76: I don’t recall one and that’s why i’m asking? Is there a critical moment or event which will trigger something bigger? Or is that not possible, because any resistance would be seen as a slap in the face of the people and organisation who fought for freedom?
I’m not trying to stir, only to understand.
3 Apr 2012, 10:34 am
is anyone taking part in fox sport super 15 fantasy? if so, is there a keo.za league or another league i can join. and what rank are you guys?
3 Apr 2012, 10:42 am
@the artist formerly known as gunther(gunther)-79: True, more than anything, the end of apartheid gave previously oppressed the value of being seen as equal on a human level, but part of being human is living and part of living is livelyhood. that livelyhood needs to be obtained through effort and hard work.
What the latest government decisions do, is drive more people to and possibly over the brink of poverty and this has potential dangers.
3 Apr 2012, 10:53 am
@pompies2(pompies2)-80: well, you can ask yourself what happened to the people who were members of the PAC, Azapo? those were also legitimate political movements but their members “crossed floors” eg patricia de lille, taking with them “their” constituencies.
i don’t know what it will take for people rise against the current government because most people are afraid of being ostracised like holomisa, lekota, shilowa etc.
but the man in the street is buzzing though, there’s a real ground swell in most parts of the country where people are gatvol of the incompetence and excuses but there’s a big leadership vaccum and helen zille is still seen as a “madam” unfortunately. you speak to most people and they genuinely have a sense that the DA can bring good change but they’re not convinced of its non-racialist and class bona fides.
3 Apr 2012, 11:02 am
@pompies2(pompies2)-82: The challenge has to come from a credible alternative. The best governing party (the DA are still seen very much as a white elitist alternative, Cope are a mess, Inkatha are too tibal, etc etc)
You need to be able to give the voters something else, that in their eyes, makes sense. At this stage, as much as they know that the ANC is letting them down, they will continue to vote for them.
So in that sense the adage “you get the democracy you deserve” holds true unfortunately.
3 Apr 2012, 11:02 am
@Transformation(Transformation)-83: Agreed. If they wanted, the DA could essentially buy the poor vote. If they manage to convince, especially poor people, of the alternative to increasing levies and taxes, while also displaying a value for money capability, they could make drastic inroads. But like you say, the ‘madame’ tag the Zillenator has needs to be erased.
3 Apr 2012, 11:03 am
@Transformation(Transformation)-83: Good post.unfortunately, white refugees moving into the wc to live under zille’s da government, and boldly proclaiming it,will cause more harm to zille’s da in terms of being seen as a party for all sout africans. That is pity because she has done great work in the wc.
3 Apr 2012, 11:36 am
So when did this turn into a political blog?
About the youngsters, I for one has been really impressed at the how some of the youngsters have adapted to super 15 so quickly. Last year we had Lambie, Taute, Jantjies and Elstadt.
This year we have Venter 12 from the bulls, Trevor Nkahana, Kolisi, Estebeth, Kirtshof, Goosen, Coetzee
If we still had an under 23 team, who would you guys choose. I think that these guys would be good enough to beat most of the test nations.
1 – Kitshoff
2 – ?
3 – Trevor Nkahana
4 – Estebeth
5 – Elstadt
6 – Coetzee
7 – Kolisi
8 – Stander
9 – Duvenage
10 – Goosen / Jantjies / Lambie
11 – JJ Englebrecht
12 – Venter / Whitehead
13 – Sadie
14 – Mvovo
15 – Taute
3 Apr 2012, 11:59 am
Exciting times indeed.
3 Apr 2012, 12:04 pm
Happy B-day Dawn. Mag jy so oud word dat jou ore oor jou poepol hang.
Have a good one!!
3 Apr 2012, 12:04 pm
@kingcorn(kingcorn)-87: willie le roux before jj engelbrecht any day!
3 Apr 2012, 12:07 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-90: and anybody before duvenhage. he’ll joost, even with his condition will be better than duvenhage.
3 Apr 2012, 12:09 pm
@pompies2(pompies2)-91: That must be the most confusing apostrophe I’ve seen all day.
3 Apr 2012, 12:13 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-90: Yeah Willie Le Roux is the man.
Do you guys think JPP’s Bok career is in Limbo or will he make the squad as a winger?
3 Apr 2012, 12:13 pm
@>^..^< katman(katman)-92: lol. it’s the duvenhage factor which makes me the moer in. i see his name in any side and i vomit a bit in my mouth.
3 Apr 2012, 12:17 pm
@Sasuke(Sasuke)-93: As a centre I dont think he will make the squad. He will be competing with guys like de Jongh, Fourie, Sadie, JDV, F Steyn, Taute, R. Ebersohn.
3 Apr 2012, 12:19 pm
@pompies2(pompies2)-94: Just don’t say that in front of Skoppie. He thinks that the light emanating from Duvenhage and Van Aswegen’s poepolle rival the brightest twin suns this galaxy has ever seen. He literally ***** his pants when someone disparages either of them.
3 Apr 2012, 12:23 pm
What I like about H Meyer is that he said on SuperRugby that loosing is not an option where as Snor said that we cant win all the time, I guess from Meyers side that is the Bulls temperment coming through(not a pink bulls fan).
3 Apr 2012, 12:26 pm
hi all
3 Apr 2012, 12:29 pm
@John1976(John1976)-98: hi there
@Oranjebliksemblou(Oranjebliksemblou)-97: Both are correct. Winning must be the only option but you win some you lose some thats just the way things go!
3 Apr 2012, 12:30 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-90: Who would have thought that it is possible to punt one promising white winger over another given that dreaded article posted on this site not so long ago, quite amazing don’t you think?
