Tahs hopeful of Vickerman return

The Waratahs believe Dan Vickerman will be involved in their Super Rugby campaign despite fears he would have to retire due to injuries.
The Wallabies lock has suffered a stress fracture to his leg (for which he had a rod inserted into his tibia) and also underwent reconstructive surgery on his shoulder after the 2011 World Cup. It was assumed that he would no longer be able to play due to the severity of those injuries.
However, Vickerman was spotted at Tahs training last week undergoing intensive conditioning drills and coach Michael Foley said he was hopeful of a late season return.
‘Having the rod taken out of his leg is a major moment, but on the back of that, Dan is very positive,’ Foley said. ‘He is doing some level of exercise and cross-training without pain, which is something he hasn’t been able to do for some time. The specialists are also hopeful that he might be able to make a return. They are saying in a month’s time we will know, so that is encouraging.’
