Boishaai demolish UK tourists

Paarl Boys’ smashed England’s Lord Wandsworth 72-0 during day one of the St John’s Easter Festival on Thursday.

Boishaai dominated the touring school as they scored 12 tries to none in the one-sided contest. Dante van der Merwe starred with a hat-trick, while Darian Hock and Tiaan Mouton grabbed a brace each.

All the other matches also saw the stronger schools record easy wins. Waterkloof and Florida both thumped Windhoek Gym (44-6) and Parktown Boys’ (34-11) respectively, while Marias Viljoen ran riot in a 55-29 drubbing of hosts St John’s. Daniel Pienaar bashed Klein Nederburg 46-3 and Nelspruit made light work of the Lions Invitational XV (43-14).

Tournament organiser Adi Norris lauded a wonderful opening day at the festival.

‘Although there were plenty of one-sided matches, there was still great talent and some good rugby on show,’ Norris told Schoolboy Derby. ‘Paarl Boys’, Waterkloof, Daniel Pienaar and Florida are the teams to look out for over the next two days of the tournament. We are set for an exciting day two.’

Day two resumes on Saturday, with the highlight matches seeing Boishaai take on Nelspruit and Waterkloof face Florida in a repeat of the 2011 Beeld Trophy final.
