Duane Vermeulen is out of the June Tests. Stormers strong man Duane Vermeulen returned home from the Stormers Super Rugby tour because of injury and conservatively won't play again until July. It could be that he is out for the remainder of the Super Rugby season as well because of knee ligament damage. Stormers loose-forward Rynhardt Elstadt is also out for at least six weeks as the Cape-based franchise's season went from bad to worse in Sydney. Vermeulen, Meyer's first choice No 8, will be nursed back to action for the Rugby Championship in August. His injury means a likely Bok start ... Read Article21 May 2013
JP Pietersen is set to miss the remainder of the Super Rugby season. Pietersen left the field of play in the Sharks’ victory over the Force, their final tour game. Pietersen’s scans revealed that the winger, who did duty at outside centre, will require surgery to rectify a groin injury. Pietersen was playing in the 13 jersey following a serious injury to Paul Jordaan and Tim Whitehead not taking part in rugby this season to date. Pietersen’s injury is a big loss for the Sharks, yet the bigger problem is which player will wear the 13 jersey this weekend against the Bulls. The Bulls ... Read Article25 Apr 2013
Jan Serfontein, the player of last year's under 20 World Championship, will head the baby Boks defence in France. Serfontein and Kings wing Sergeal Petersen are two Super Rugby regulars to make Dawie Theron's squad and brilliant flyhalf Handre Pollard is another to play in a second successive tournament. Theron's squad lost a three-match series 2-1 to Argentina in Argentina. Serfontein, Petersen and Western Province's Cheslin Kolbe did not play in those matches. Bulls loose forward Ruan Steenkamp is captain. Serfontein and Pollard are the only two squad members from last year's ... Read Article14 May 2013
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has selected several uncapped Blues players in his training group. Hansen confirmed 38 names and this included many from the potent Blues backline. The Highlanders, despite only winning one match in this year's Super Rugby competition, have six players in the group. An obvious area of weakness is at hooker where Hansen has selected veterans Andrew Hore and Keven Mealamu and Canes Dane Coles. Options are limited and it certainly is a concern for New Zealanders. No overseas-based players were considered, as it is NZRFU policy. Among the uncapped players ... Read Article15 May 2013
French coach Philipe Saint-Andre has included three South African-born players for the three-Test series against the All Blacks in New Zealand. Racing Metro flank Bernard le Roux and Clermont prop Daniel Kotze join Antonie Claassen in a squad that includes eight new caps. Fijian-born Clermont winger Noa Nakaitaci is among the newcomers. Saint-Andre has rested flyhalf Francois Trinh-Duc, but included Toulon's Frederic Michalak. France play world champions New Zealand on June 8, 15 and 22 in Auckland, Hamilton and New Plymouth respectively. French super club Toulon's foreign dominance ... Read Article5 Mar 2013
MARK KEOHANE writes the Varsity Cup in its first year rocked. Since then it's just another professional tournament. The Varsity Cup may have the innovation of doing a few things differently, but what was supposed to be a celebration of student rugby somehow just seems like another tournament, in which the traditional power houses remain the traditional strengths in the tournament. Much has been made of the Port Elizabeth-based Nelson Mandela University display this season and equally there has been bewilderment at how poor Shimlas have been. But it seems the old one two of Stellenbosch University ... Read Article12 May 2013
Marcus Watson scored in extra time to beat the Blitzbokke in the London World Series Sevens Cup quarter-finals. The teams were level 14-all at full time. Watson's try came four minutes into extra time. England won 19-14. England had the chance to win the match with the last play of the game in normal time. They were awarded a penalty and opted to take a drop kick for goal. It missed. Watson then rounded off a move after England had retained possession for two minutes. South Africa suffered further embarrassment when they lost for a second time in the tournament to the USA and were eliminated ... Read Article8 Jan 2013
Limpopo will play in the Vodacom Cup as a separate side for the first time this year. The region, which is a sub-union of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, has been granted a place in the tournament in its own rights to help foster rugby in South Africa’s far north. They join the 14 provincial unions as well as the returning Pampas XV from Argentina in the tournament, which kicks off in the second week of March and concludes in mid-May. The Polokwane-based Limpopo team will play in the North Section of the competition, along with the Blue Bulls, Golden Lions, Griffons, Leopards, Pumas, Valke ... Read Article5 Apr 2012

Hopefully no skop ‘n jag for the Boks. Doubt it, as least not as the only weapon. Ol’ Heyneke recognised that there needs to be a good attacking backline element to play.
Think we will see a mixed approach come the end of the year tour as he experiments.

Next to Vrede, Morne is a regular Peter Ustinov…
Give your critics the finger Morne… and get you kicking back to the 80%’s whilst you’re doing it…

Maaaaan, the editing suck!

Steyn’s lack of force in the tackle has nothing to do with size — it’s about skill. Dan Carter is by no means a large man but his defense has always been top notch.
Steyn seems like a great guy, but I still say that HM can’t continue with him in the #10 jersey.
4 Apr 2012, 16:07 pm
Nice toweling V-neck, Ryan. My auntie used to make them when my uncle lost his job.
4 Apr 2012, 16:08 pm
@DAS(DAS)-5: Not skill, technique.
4 Apr 2012, 16:08 pm
@>^..^< katman(katman)-6: He is resurrecting trends from different eras.
4 Apr 2012, 16:16 pm
@DAS(DAS)-5: On the money, size has nothing to do with it. Dan is 1.78cm and Lambie the same and they tackle like monsters.
It’s 85% attitude, if you don’t have the right attitude to start with you might as well forget it.
4 Apr 2012, 16:22 pm
And I dont see him answering his critics… He is answering your questions Ryan…
4 Apr 2012, 16:24 pm
Ryan.
Simon Cowell called.
He’s not happy.
He said he lent you one of his V-neck Tees and he wants it back.
It looks like you stuck it in the wash with your freebee CocaCola towel that you got the other day though.

Always liked this guy. Very humble, which is quite rare, coming from that neck of the woods.
Was brain washed into becoming a kicking flyhalf (by Heyneke) and now don’t know of anything different.
He’ll play against England and so will Basson and Habana.
4 Apr 2012, 17:32 pm
Mikey read the sarcasm but yes the headline is correct…
4 Apr 2012, 18:22 pm
Morne my mate …… you have got 100% chance of keeping the ball if you keep it in your hands …. unless you drop it.
Kicking is NOT an attacking strategy!

He can’t tackle, he can’t run. Fckn useless as far as I am concerned. So he can kick as well a a few other in the country, so what?

Morne ran beautifully in the Bulls’ 2010 Super campaign. He can do it. He needs to work on it more though.
5 Apr 2012, 02:20 am
@JA-JA(JA-JA)-9: Lambie is a very poor and passive defender. Heavily exposed in every test he has played at 10. In fact, against Australia last year he backed off from his man and refused to tackle anyone. Against New Zealand the following week, the All Blacks ploughed through him like he was Adi Jacobs. Jantjies was similary exposed against the Barbarians. Morne is not the most dominant tackler, but he is by no means weak. There’s a video online of him shunting big Jauzion on his backside, he scragged an All Black lock last year in the second test and held very firm against Samoa. This is yet another extraordinarily weak attempt to attack our best test 10. He is supposed to kick too much, yet has the most even balance of kicking and passing of ALL SA 10s!! But keep listening to the media idiots twisting the truth. That’s how it works in SA, just use your position in the media as an extension of your big fat mouths. What’s that? A nice little brown envelope to promote good ‘ol chums ala Keo/Watson? No problem. Jean and Butch got a book to promote? No problem, we’ll lead the sheep for you. Classy.
5 Apr 2012, 05:43 am
FDP and Steyn as the Bokke 9 & 10 this year, defensive coaches will be sleeping easy this year.
5 Apr 2012, 05:44 am
Absolute kuk, Alucard. Lambie was one of our best defenders in those tests against the Kiwis and Aussies last year. Just look at the game stats and you will see he nailed every tackle by going low around the ankles old school style. You are obviously confusing Lambie’s defence with John Smit who missed every attempted tackle in both those games.
5 Apr 2012, 06:52 am
I respect Morne Steyn, he is good at what he does, kick. He has an excellent temperment suited for the big games. He is a great frontrunner but when chasing the win his limitations can be exposed.
5 Apr 2012, 07:08 am
@Alucard(Alucard)-26: go on youtube and look up morne vs wales at the world cup, jamie roberts made his b(itch!
remember when morne was at fullback last year? he was a bloody turnstile.
when he tackles he keeps his body so far away from the opponent it is ridiculous.
his defence is shoddy in any language!
5 Apr 2012, 07:26 am
@the artist formerly known as gunther(gunther)-21:
5 Apr 2012, 07:26 am
Regardless I still feel Morne Steyn is still the Man to play 10 for the Boks. There are a few up and comers like Patrick Lambie and Johan Goosen but they both have lots of developing still to do before they will be in the same class as Morne.
5 Apr 2012, 07:31 am
Lambie = overrated
Steyn = k@k defense
Grant = lack kicking game
Goosen = inexperienced
Butch = has been
Jantjies = probably our best option
5 Apr 2012, 07:35 am
It sounds like heyneke will be loyal to his bulls players, if rumors are to be believed then Du preez and rossouw will play boks this year.
I don’t hope we have the same situation as last year and pick players that are over the hill.
5 Apr 2012, 07:42 am
@Alucard(Alucard)-26: ” Lambie is a very poor and passive defender”…. lol… teehee… giggles… you’re a funny guy. Keep this up and you might even join Katman and Grunter in the comedy corner…
(By the way, is it because Lambieghini is an upstart soutie in the 10 jersey that you just cannot see what the rest of the knowledgeable rugby world can?)
5 Apr 2012, 07:43 am
@Te Rangatira(Te Rangatira)-29: “when chasing the win his limitations can be exposed.”… this is a good comment.

When Keo & Co’s been bashing SA Rugby this is what the NZ Media has to say about our Super teams this year…
OPINION: Sharks coach John Plumtree said it, and everyone in New Zealand has vehemently disagreed, that it is much harder to win the South African leg of Super Rugby. He may well be correct.
South Africa has come a long way since the late 1990s when the game was built around brawn and passion, with Natal being the trendsetters of the time by passing it, albeit in a very flat formation, very close together, and definitely not if there was a less than 80/20 chance of it coming off.
During this early period of Super Rugby, the South African Rugby Union, no doubt in an attempt to make up for lost ground, appointed a back as the national coach. What did he do, he tried to get them to run and pass, a plan so foreign to the selected individuals that they began losing regularly.
An emergency meeting was called and all the provincial coaches invited! What I expected to be a “think tank” to provide ideas for a relatively inexperienced coach, turned in to a sledging session, much of it in Afrikaans, with potential national coaches leading the way.
As a quiet observer, I was surprised that there was little technical or tactical detail discussed but a lot of accusations that the players had no “heart” and the coach had no idea. My thoughts were that it appeared the coach was running before he had taught them to walk. No matter, he was soon dismissed.
There was never any doubt in my mind that South Africa possessed a huge number of talented rugby players in skill, speed and size, and it would only be a matter of time that South African teams would again be the greatest rugby challenge. Let’s face it, they were tough enough before they saw the “big picture”, so they could only get better.
Super Rugby has provided that stage for their franchises to develop, and after making only two finals in the first eleven seasons – the Sharks were well beaten by the Blues in 1996, and smashed by the Brumbies in 2001 – the Bulls finally lifted the trophy in 2007 with a one point win against the Sharks.
Since then the Bulls have won the title in 2009 and in 2010, when once again it was an all-South African final, this time against the Stormers. There can be no doubt that the skill level and tactical nous has caught up with their physicality, which makes South African teams a lethal mix.
No longer are the Lions and Cheetahs easy beats, with the Cheetahs providing a new brand of exciting rugby that is good enough to beat the Hurricanes in their own backyard and demonstrates that they are continuing to evolve. This must be a concern for New Zealand franchises, who all tend to churn out similar styles each week.
Tomorrow night at Yarrow Stadium the locals will be able to judge for themselves whether they can believe what the lad from Hawera has been uttering.
Is Plumtree just talking it up after a slow start or will it be the fourth season without a New Zealand title win?

vokkit, vrede looks like a pink parakeet…
5 Apr 2012, 09:22 am
@garth(garth)-19: Aaag my donner. Morne article on keo and sure thing Garth pops up. You are becomeing very predictable and to bolster that you post same sh itty comment every time.
5 Apr 2012, 09:56 am
my predicitons are straight out of the skopskiet top draw for the weekend.
highlanders should win it….but don’t be surprised if the stormers do.
sharks should win it…but don’t be surprised if the hurricanes do.
the cheetahs should win it…but don’t be surprised if the Lions do.
the bulls should win it…but don’t be surprised if the crusaders do.
…the ozzie sides are all pish so I could careless what goes on there.
5 Apr 2012, 09:58 am
Indeed.
Garf is a bulls fetishist.
I think he spent some time in Pretoria as an AA placement.
And suffered rather badly.
Post traumatic stress.

Hi fellas
Busy here with many things; if I dont ‘see’ you again have a wonderful Passover, yes not Easter – that’s pagan; just follow the Jewish calendar and you’re safe
It was on 6th April around 30 AD that Yeshua ben Yosef went through His terrible ordeal, but in the end it was worth it. Your demons may not agree with that.
Closer to home, a certain Mr Jan van Riebeeck apparently arrived in Cape Town in 1652, some 360 years ago; an arrival that one can have mixed feelings about but be that as it may.
Notice that he found not CT that day but Autshumato (Harry the beachcomber) who was already well established in these parts as a translator. You will appreciate then why I say that the Cape has to be returned to its rightful owners:-)
