Willie le Roux and Lappies Labuschagne have finally been rewarded with spots in the Springbok training group. They are two of eight that are first timers in Springbok training groups this year. The others are Gio Aplon, Trevor Nyakane, JJ Engelbrecht, Lionel Mapoe, Wiehahn Herbst and Demetri Catrakilis. The group of players will assemble in Durban for the second training camp of the year, before the final squad for the Incoming Tours is selected. Players not considered due to injury include: JP Pietersen, Jaco Taute, Frans Steyn, Johan Goosen, Duane Vermeulen, Pat Cilliers and Frans Malherbe. ... Read Article25 May 2013

Jan Serfontein, the player of last year's under 20 World Championship, will head the baby Boks defence in France. Serfontein and Kings wing Sergeal Petersen are two Super Rugby regulars to make Dawie Theron's squad and brilliant flyhalf Handre Pollard is another to play in a second successive tournament. Theron's squad lost a three-match series 2-1 to Argentina in Argentina. Serfontein, Petersen and Western Province's Cheslin Kolbe did not play in those matches. Bulls loose forward Ruan Steenkamp is captain. Serfontein and Pollard are the only two squad members from last year's ... Read Article14 May 2013
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has selected several uncapped Blues players in his training group. Hansen confirmed 38 names and this included many from the potent Blues backline. The Highlanders, despite only winning one match in this year's Super Rugby competition, have six players in the group. An obvious area of weakness is at hooker where Hansen has selected veterans Andrew Hore and Keven Mealamu and Canes Dane Coles. Options are limited and it certainly is a concern for New Zealanders. No overseas-based players were considered, as it is NZRFU policy. Among the uncapped players ... Read Article15 May 2013
French coach Philipe Saint-Andre has included three South African-born players for the three-Test series against the All Blacks in New Zealand. Racing Metro flank Bernard le Roux and Clermont prop Daniel Kotze join Antonie Claassen in a squad that includes eight new caps. Fijian-born Clermont winger Noa Nakaitaci is among the newcomers. Saint-Andre has rested flyhalf Francois Trinh-Duc, but included Toulon's Frederic Michalak. France play world champions New Zealand on June 8, 15 and 22 in Auckland, Hamilton and New Plymouth respectively. French super club Toulon's foreign dominance ... Read Article5 Mar 2013
MARK KEOHANE writes the Varsity Cup in its first year rocked. Since then it's just another professional tournament. The Varsity Cup may have the innovation of doing a few things differently, but what was supposed to be a celebration of student rugby somehow just seems like another tournament, in which the traditional power houses remain the traditional strengths in the tournament. Much has been made of the Port Elizabeth-based Nelson Mandela University display this season and equally there has been bewilderment at how poor Shimlas have been. But it seems the old one two of Stellenbosch University ... Read Article12 May 2013
Marcus Watson scored in extra time to beat the Blitzbokke in the London World Series Sevens Cup quarter-finals. The teams were level 14-all at full time. Watson's try came four minutes into extra time. England won 19-14. England had the chance to win the match with the last play of the game in normal time. They were awarded a penalty and opted to take a drop kick for goal. It missed. Watson then rounded off a move after England had retained possession for two minutes. South Africa suffered further embarrassment when they lost for a second time in the tournament to the USA and were eliminated ... Read Article8 Jan 2013
Limpopo will play in the Vodacom Cup as a separate side for the first time this year. The region, which is a sub-union of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, has been granted a place in the tournament in its own rights to help foster rugby in South Africa’s far north. They join the 14 provincial unions as well as the returning Pampas XV from Argentina in the tournament, which kicks off in the second week of March and concludes in mid-May. The Polokwane-based Limpopo team will play in the North Section of the competition, along with the Blue Bulls, Golden Lions, Griffons, Leopards, Pumas, Valke ... Read Article5 Apr 2012

I got the Sharks and Bulls to stumble.
Hope I am wrong.
5 Apr 2012, 10:18 am
Reehaan is getting a lot of face time.
Keo needs to sort him out with a clothing allowance.
Maybe some Access Park vouchers.
We can’t have a repeat of the towelling V-Neck incident.
5 Apr 2012, 10:32 am
Don’t see the Sharks coming away with a victory.
Bulls lost last weekend so I’m going with their inconsistency which means they’ll beat Saders by 50 this weekend.
If Stormers can win Saturdays game then I’ll start taking this year’s class as serious title contenders. Like the Reds did last year beating us in Cape Town or the Bulls champion teams beating SA sides away from home on a consistent basis.
Stormers need to show we’ve got that ”hard-edge win against all odds” away from home attitude otherwise the drought will continue for us.
5 Apr 2012, 10:35 am
I love percy, such a funny fella! Gonna be an interesting weekend… Go Sharks!
5 Apr 2012, 10:36 am
Vrede : “you’re pussys are gonna get pumped”……. Now ive heard it all from this 12 yr old
Keo wants the stormers to win but keeps saying how Kak they are???
Anyways do agree that all SA teams will win this weekend
5 Apr 2012, 10:40 am
Nee donner Keo, staan stil as jy praat, jy werk op my nerves!!
Don’t think the Sharks are gonna win this weekend. Not without Bissie and Lambie…
5 Apr 2012, 10:42 am
Indeed.
Pussypumps are no laughing matter.
I’m going for a Saffa clean sweep this weekend.
Stormers
Sharks
Bulls
Cheaters.
Lions to get cornholed.
5 Apr 2012, 10:44 am
I don’t think the Stormers will win this weekend. After the tough game against the Bulls and the long travel I think the Stormers might give up their unbeaten record this weekend.
Sharks/Canes very tough to call especially without Lambie and Bismarck.
Cheetah’s have travelled but I think they’re to strong for the Lions.
Crusaders/Bulls. It should be Bulls but I went Saders on Superbru as my upset of the weekend. If the Crusaders ‘click’ their back 3 could cause havoc if Morne’s kicks aren’t spot on.
5 Apr 2012, 10:45 am
@wpstormerbok(wpstormerbok)-3:
no, to take the stormers seriously they first have to beat their bogey team away from home..the crusaders… if they can do this then i will take them seriously.
5 Apr 2012, 10:47 am
Stormers scoring off the field?………aahhh yes, in die parkie op n bankie so ons weet Parkiepeester score.
5 Apr 2012, 10:48 am
@houston, we have a problem…(i_love_u_bakkiesbotha)-9:
When did the Bulls beat the Saders away from home?
When was the last time ANY SA side did it?
But to be honest this is the year I feel we have the best chance to do it given their form and the fact that they’ll have to fly home after clashing with the Bullies this weekend.
5 Apr 2012, 10:51 am
@wpstormerbok(wpstormerbok)-11: They’ve been looking the part the couple of seasons. Said it yesterday as well. They have a leadership issue starting right at the top of the pile through to the captaincy.
5 Apr 2012, 10:53 am
@pokkel(pokkel)-8:
Stormers will be up against it but champion teams have come away with victory in tricky situations like these.
3/4 tour will be a big statement, 2/4 okay will still leave some doubt about our credentials, unless one of those 2 scalps is a Crusaders one…
5 Apr 2012, 10:53 am
I reckon Percy might’ve been dead serious…….Many a true word…….

cheetahs, the toast of New Zealand
Underrated Cheetahs Over-performing!
Article By: Paul, Neazor
Monday, 2 April 2012 4:06 p.m
At halftime in Wellington any old score was possible, as the teams turned at 32-32 (it had been 32-11 to the Hurricanes at one stage), but the second spell was a much tighter affair that the Cheetahs dominated through plenty of aggressive running in the close channels.
Although Coenie Oosthuizen’s second try would probably have been ruled out if the TMO had been asked to take a look at it – it was awarded on the assistant referee’s recommendation – the visitors were value for their win.
The Cheetahs have become popular visitors to this country over a number of years and in 2012 they return home with a touring record that would be the envy of any South African side.
They achieved that record by playing a lot of good rugby, getting stuck in and staying that way for the duration and also by taking a positive attitude into every game.
But they also achieved those results in the face of pressure that few Super rugby teams have ever been subjected to, since it is by no means certain they’ll be included in the 2013 competition.
That’s all tied up with the very messy rugby politics in South Africa and the Cheetahs franchise is an easy mark for those self-interested parties, but the players have attended to the only thing they can control – the way they perform during the 80 minutes of on-field action every week.
I get regular texts (generally one a week) from a friend who thinks, as I do, that they’ve been under-rated at the betting agencies and in the media all season and it’s normally the same: “Gotta love those Cheetahs”, as he trousers another decent collect.
It doesn’t seem to matter how high the odds may be stacked against them, the 2012 Cheetahs are not put off by anything much and good luck to them.
I hope their performances over the last couple of seasons finally start earning the respect they deserve – in the boardrooms at least, but I wouldn’t cry if the Cheetahs were over-priced underdogs at the TAB for the rest of the season.
5 Apr 2012, 10:59 am
@houston, we have a problem…(i_love_u_bakkiesbotha)-9: how are the crusaders the stormers bogey team when in 2010 the stormers walloped the saders by 40 points (42 – 14 i think), last year the bulls lost 27 – 0 to the crusaders, have they gotten over that?
5 Apr 2012, 11:00 am
sharks will be fine without bismaak at least we wont start knowing we are 9 points down with the rate he gives penalties away
5 Apr 2012, 11:06 am
@seabiscuit(seabiscuit)-17:
Yes but Bis saves you a lot of points and offers many counter attacking chances with those steals out of nowhere, you’re gonna miss him big time I think.
5 Apr 2012, 11:09 am
@wpstormerbok(wpstormerbok)-11:
my point was you’re using a possible away victory against the highlanders as your yardstick by which to call them ‘serious title contenders’… which is really a load of crock considering they’ve been beaten at home in the past by such lowly teams as the lions, force, blues, hurricanes and sharks….even the stormers have beaten them at home in 2009 (and no i dont care about their current run of form).
i repeat a real sign will be if they beat a seemingly depleted and jetlagged crusaders team at home… which may be easier said than done… after all a seemingly depleted and jetlagged crusaders team scrumfucked them to a victory at nuweland…you may recall…
to finish, the highlanders are having a temporary, short term run of good form but have historically been beaten at home by all and sundry… there’s nothing to prove here…
the crusader however are having a short term run of poor form but have historically been beaten by very few teams at home… there’s something to prove there…
5 Apr 2012, 11:17 am
So then ………………………………..
Larry, Curly and Moe have spoken.
5 Apr 2012, 11:19 am
Some exciting games this weekend, looking forward..Percy starting to look more comfortable on camera..
5 Apr 2012, 11:20 am
@houston, we have a problem…(i_love_u_bakkiesbotha)-19:
I’m talking about this year, which shows the Landers leading the NZ Conference, the same one which includes the high flying Chiefs and of course Crusaders, then you have the never to say you disregard their current form, on what basis is that?
Therefor I’m saying it will be a good measure of where we are since we’re playing a confident team in their own difficult conditions after a hard game vs Bulls and a long flight to NZ.
Of course the Stormers got shown up by the Saders and Reds last year at Newlands which proved we still weren’t Champion material yet.
But this is the 2012 season, Stormers have a chance to make a statement and if not then I’ll consider is still vulnerable and not ready to wear the crown. That was said all in my first post already.
5 Apr 2012, 11:25 am
These journo’s on this site have 60% win accuracy which is pathetic. No use following what they say.
5 Apr 2012, 11:26 am
@Transformation(Transformation)-16:
oh transie, please refer post #19
firstly, this is about the stormers not the bulls. it is also about most stormers supporters thinking that the highlanders will be the acid test of their teams ‘title contesting’ credentials. i refute this as i believe the real test will be in taking the crusaders at home in the same way the crusaders took them at home (twice) last season. if they can beat the crusaders away then they will believe they can beat them at home in a semi…geddit…
5 Apr 2012, 11:28 am
@wpstormerbok(wpstormerbok)-22:
I agree, if the Stormers can win this weekend it will be a massive statement considering the travel / bulls game / Highlanders form.
For your sake I hope they can do it, but it will be tough.
5 Apr 2012, 11:31 am
Keo is Curly.
Obviously.
5 Apr 2012, 11:31 am

“bogey”?

two very different languages…
5 Apr 2012, 11:35 am
@Mr Black(Mr Black)-25:
Don’t know if I’m just imaging it but this current group (2010 to now) play with more freedom on our tours than we do at home so I’m slightly more confident of getting a pleasant surprise than a beautiful letdown this weekend.
Don’t think the Highlanders have met a pack yet this season playing at our forwards’ intensity.

transie can be silly sometimes. he brings up two selective games as a comparison between the stormers and bulls yet he forgets the bulls have beaten the crusaders in three semis already.

Same as PA, got Sharks and Bulls to lose.
Wouldn’t be surprised if the Bulls win although with Stegmann that pack doesn’t click like it should, but Sharks are gonna lose, they’ve been ridiculously lucky with such kak defense and the Canes know how to score tries.

But the Bulls have a record of 6 from 18 against the crusaders and have NEVER beaten them in Christchurch.
Yet they have won the Super 14 a few times. Should we not take those trophy wins seriously as they weren’t achieved with away wins over the crusaders?
So how can it be that the Saders are the bogey team for the Stormers? Surely then they are the bogey team for all the SA sides?
Unless you have a different interpretation of the word bogey?

bo·gey also bo·gy or bo·gie (bg)
n. pl. bo·geys also bo·gies
1. also (bg, bg) An evil or mischievous spirit; a hobgoblin.
2. also (bg, bg) A cause of annoyance or harassment.
I’m assuming we are referring to the second definition of bogey when stating the Crusaders are the Stormers bogey team?
Apt that it can also be used in the sentence “Bulls supporters are a constant bogey when it comes to ill-thought out, infactual, random statements re the Stormers”???

5 Apr 2012, 12:14 pm
@Vetkoek(Vetkoek)-53:
again, this isn’t about the bulls… its about the stormers…
the stomers were scrumfucked and ruckraped by the crusaders in a home semi so my thinking is they need to prove a point by beating thecrusaders away if they are going to have any belief in being able to beat the crusaders at home.
as you point out the bulls are not an easily affected team from a mental/psychological perspective. they can lose to teams but still have the mental hardness to bring it when it matters against those self same teams they lost to.
can we say the same for the stormers based on past performance..?.. i think safely not….

But they can beat the crusaders at home. AS they’ve shown in the past.
Who says they will even get the saders in a home semi? Who says either of them will even get a semi?
It is about the Bulls as well as the Stormers/Cheetahs/Sharks/Lions, as it is a completely unsubstantiated statement. To suggest the Stormers need to beat the Saders away to prove they can win the tournament is senseless as the Bulls have already proved it is unnecessary?
5 Apr 2012, 12:19 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-63: now you can say “BOGEY” team!

Very kak ending indeed. But if the Stormers won that game they would've played the final in Christchurch against the Saders….No chance.
@houston, we have a problem…(i_love_u_bakkiesbotha)-78:
Skinstad couldn’t handle his Ford Falcon V8. Crashed into a bridge.

Hehehe, I thoroughly enjoyed this clip, victory drums beating, tram-tararam-tararam.
Would not be surprised by 3-0 to the “wrong teams”.

@stormersboy(stormersboy)-80: Let that be a lesson to you then.

Bulls were good for 3 seasons and shite for 13
5 Apr 2012, 13:58 pm
@greentea(greentea)-84:
would you trade three seasons of heaven and 13 of hell for a lifetime of mediocrity..?..hmm..?…
anyway, its not true to say 13 as they were only really bad for about 5 or so of those 13, for the rest they made decent placings on the comp log.

Percy’s best Keo TV yet.
Soooorriiee Bulls.

Bulls = Bokke 3 from `16
5 Apr 2012, 14:30 pm
@houston, we have a problem…(i_love_u_bakkiesbotha)-85: have the bulls won in christchurch before?
5 Apr 2012, 14:38 pm
@greentea(greentea)-87:
ja, the bulls and bokke must improve… i agree…
@Transformation(Transformation)-88:
you know the point is that the bulls have beaten the crusaders in three semis, transie. and no, i’m not j(ch)oking. they took their losses away on the chin and went back home and demolished all before them in semi and finals.
can we say the same about any other saffa team..?..
5 Apr 2012, 15:04 pm
@houston, we have a problem…(i_love_u_bakkiesbotha)-89: how many of those semis were at the AMI stadium in Christchurch?
5 Apr 2012, 15:53 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-90:
ag transie, you are such an agent.
this is a revolutionary rugby house…

happy easter drinking everybody…

@houston, we have a problem…(i_love_u_bakkiesbotha)-78:
Oh please, the Bulls are not immune to mental weaknesses. In fact their forwards are probably busy developing one right now after having their asses handed to them by the young Stormers pack.

The betting yesterday was Evens on the Hurricanes and 23/20 on the Crusaders (both non-favourites).
With the results we’ve had so far and bearing in mind the quality of the two sides involved, one of them surely will win so there has to be a very easy bet somewhere along the line.

The only SA team to win a playoff on overseas were the Shartks…
5 Apr 2012, 18:57 pm
On overseas soil!!

Firstly with my Keo TV critic hat on…
Percy, that was far better, however firstly as a Percy Montogomery fan and secondly as a Bulls fan you were a bit ‘flippant’ about the Bulls and you even sniggered!! However I forgive you
Ryan, I still need a translator when you get excited and talk quickly!! (I am a Pommie)
Keo, heavens man, whats with the flapping arms? However you do talk some sense this week!!
Secondly…There is no secondly!!
5 Apr 2012, 21:17 pm
Actually Ryan and Keo do drop a comment from time to time…..Now I am waiting for a Percy comment!!
Cummon Monty, I dare you!!

@wpstormerbok(wpstormerbok)-70: Crusaders have lost at home, as far as I know, only to 2 South African teams – in Christchurch to Northern Transvaal in 1996 (18-34) and in Nelson to Cats in 2001 (31-32).

@THE MAULER(THE MAULER)-95:
Did they win the Super rugby trophy that year?
Can’t remember!
