As for BRICS, yes I’m aware of it but again, because these are the large economies of today and the future, does that mean we turn a blind eye to all their other glaring failures and abuses?

I don’t believe it does. And yes, many nations trade with China because the world is full of hypocrits – not just NZ and Aus – who loudly sing the human rights song when it suits them and conveniently lose their voices and song-sheet when it doesn’t.

I simply asked you why you found it within your ‘deep commitment to human rights’ to have a crack at South Africa, which I conceded has a human rights history to be ashamed of. What irks me – and I said as much – is that your government and that of your Anzac buddies across the ditch will happily trade with China, happily attend the Beijing Olympics, happily welcome Chinese government heavies, happily visit and hug Chinese dictators – and every now and then, whisper very carefully worded ‘concerns’ about the nation…but never venturing to lambast them for what we all know is, bar none, the most appalling human rights record in history. In the past, today and, in all likelihood, for years to come.

I told you it smacked of hypocrisy and, even more distastefully, expediency. You see, it’s easy to stand on your soap box, apply your holier-than-thou mask and apply sanctions when the impact on your economy is mininal. Quite a different matter when it makes a real difference, so you’ll merrily trade with the world’s worst human rights abuser and use every excuse in the book to justify it.

Until you and your ilk concede this, I couldn’t give a fig about your condemnation of things South African. It’s shallow, it’s deceiptful and, as I said, expdeient and hypocritical.

By the way, while you reflect on this, you might also consider taking spelling and grammar lessons.

Ref admits that he did not see what happened yet penalises the Sharks anyway! It is not wonder that the Sharks became frustrated – the ref was one-eyed although credit must go to the Canes for some wonderful tries. It was unfortunate that two were dicey calls by a dubious TMO!
