Jantjies pinned for tackle

Lions flyhalf Elton Jantjies has been issued with an off-field yellow card for a dangerous tackle.

Jantjies appeared to tackle Cheetahs flyhalf Johan Goosen high and then dump him to the ground in the 29th minute of their match in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Off-field yellow cards may be issued by the citing commissioner for foul play incidents that are very close to, but in his opinion do not
meet the red card threshold for citings.

Referee Mark Lawrence awarded a penalty for the incident but further review of the match footage the saw the citing commissioner
deem an off-field yellow card appropriate.

Jantjies’ sanction brings to four the number of off-field yellows issued in the round. Sharks prop Jannie du Plessis, as well as Ben Daley (Reds) and Dan Palmer (Brumbies) were all pinned for punches.

I wonder what the other rugby “old timers” think about this? In our time *** was safe and rugby dangerous! Now the officials are dangerous from their ivory towers as they strive to be nominated as “man” of the match.

    verb (pins, pinning, pinned)
    [with object and adverbial]
1attach or fasten with a pin or pins:
he pinned the badge on to his lapel
    her hair was pinned back
2hold (someone) firmly in a specified position so they are unable to move:
she was standing pinned against the door
Richards pinned him down until the police arrived
3 [with object] Chess hinder or prevent (a piece or pawn) from moving because of the danger to a more valuable piece standing behind it along the line of an attack:
the black rook on e4 is pinned

Pinned? No, he wasn’t pinned, was he?

The word you’re looking for is pinged, which is a slang term referring to the sound a referee’s whistle would make.

I would like to see some off-field yellows for the refs, but then after 2 weeks SARU will have to fly in some NH refs because SH refs will run dry. Pathetic.

    @Sasuke(Sasuke)-4: Probably 2 weeks.

@Sasuke(Sasuke)-4: No ban. The player only gets a ban for a red card.
