Crusaders cleared of foul play

Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder has demanded an apology from the Bulls after eye-gouging allegations against his team couldn’t be substantiated by the Super Rugby citing commissioner.
Bulls forwards Chiliboy Ralepelle and Flip van der Merwe complained to referee Jaco Peyper that they had been eye-gouged during their match in Pretoria, won 32-30 by the Bulls. Peyper used a white card to refer the incidents to the citing commissioner.
According to reports in New Zealand, the commissioner has reviewed the video footage of the incidents in question and found the Crusaders not guilty.
‘The citing commissioner has reviewed it and after that review there was nothing in the video footage that would point to the allegation being substantiated,’ Sanzar chief executive Greg Peters said.
‘The citing commissioner also found it interesting that the Bulls did not follow through with a complaint within the four-hour window after the game.’
After the game, Blackadder said he was ‘bemused’ at the allegations and demanded an apology if they were found to be incorrect. Following the citing commissioner’s ruling and after looking at the footage, the Crusaders coach wonders why the Bulls would have made such claims.
‘The first one with Chiliboy, you would expect that the player would come out of the breakdown holding his eye, but he certainly didn’t. I wonder whether it was a negative ploy.’
Captain Kieran Read also said that he was disappointed with the Bulls for accusing the Crusaders of such tactics.
‘Initially I was really surprised at the allegations,’ he said. ‘It has now come out that there’s no case to answer.
‘It’s a kick in the guts to us because we’re men of integrity and it’s no surprise that it’s turned out the way it has.’

@rossoneri(rossoneri)-650: Maybe the Bulls were fast on the draw and reviewed the same footage shown tonight in NZ on the rugby show Reunion. Flippie minus blood enters the fray, contact occurs during which any eye gouging would have been clear to see and wasn’t, he then emerges with blood around the eye. I think you used to get something in SA called “wrap from downunder”, a combination of the Oz Rugby Club and NZ Reunion. Have a look and make up your own mind. You seem more logical than some of the emotional posters here and are obviously capable of drawing an unbiased decision for yourself.

Look as dirty and guilty as these Crusaders are,they are not dumb.
As usual with New Zealanders they do their dirty work and skullduggery in the dark where no one can ping them.
Unlike our boneheads, like Schalk Burger who gouges out in the open in front of the ref then rolls over and does it again for the other camera.
The rules of the game unfortunately are that if there is no evidence you are not guilty.

Blackadder has asked for an apology,silly i think. He should have said that in that same ruck one of his players were eye gouged as well. Then you guys will have something else to bleat about.
No fukn proof means not fukn guilty, it is in NZ anyway, you should know, you arrived on one of the packed flights from South Africa.
Give it a rest everyone, and Whatever, only time you rear ya ugly mug in here is when there could be a Kiwi in trouble.

@mad eye(mad eye)-652: Lol, even Schalk would have a laugh at that one but maybe you should also try to see the tv footage mentioned above. The point is that it happens in the open, no dark ruck and anything like what you allude to.
Your stereotyping of the Crusaders as guilty and dirty is the very reason Todd wanted an apology if the Bulls accusations were unfounded. Accusations even when there is no evidence have a nasty habit of sticking when it suits some detractors, unless they are challenged.

As innocent as Richard Loe who actually invented eye gouging and perfected it on his own countrymen,then appears on Reunion as a morals commentator.

A professional outfit like the Crusaders would have moved on the minute they took off from Mr Tambo’s airport and they need to given what awaits them in CHC this weekend. Reunion gave big coverage of the Stormers performance in Dunners and not for nothing, voted Joe Peterson’s try as the try of the week. When the Stormers re-discover how to score tries like that on top of their rocksolid defence they become a formidable side. Going to be a cracker of a game on Saturday.

Sitting in the stands (with no commentary or the ref’s mic), both times it was hard for me to figure out why there was a stoppage in play as spies was addressing the ref. Flip & chilli’s body language tells a tale. Compare their reaction to that of adam byrnes’ accuser. That back was furious & gesticulating all over the place. My verdict – they were both gouged by a team mate.

I said to Transformation that knowing TJ he would have examined the incident properly for the viewers and more often than not one gets a better analysis than you would from Supersport. I’m keen to see the footage you mention.

These Blue Bulls seem like good Christian gentllemen, they must be playing with a straight bat.
My cousin once accused his wife of sleeping with a Punjabi of very bad character and definitely not playing the straight bat.
They demmanded satisfaction at this slight and eventually was being settled in duel of a very gentlmanly fashion.

The 2012 season has highlighted a lot of incidents at Loftus this year. First Keven is hit with a bottle by a fan, then accusations of eye gouging on two players in one match.

I would like to see this settled the old way. Play another fixture this season.
Wont happen though because the men of integrity from christchurch wont make the playoffs.
Probably because they are scared of the retribution that will come their way, within the rules of course. Kiwi softies dont like retribution.
Imagine supporting a team that wont make the playoffs because they are scared!!!! Of course the NZ of SANZAR might recall Bryce for that match its their only chance

haha, so the kiwi responses are:
1. it was a ploy to put the losers off their game (i use losers as a term because thats what the crusaders are at loftus, losers).
2. the bulls players were gouged by their own teammates(surely one of the most brilliant pieces of kiwi supersleuthing in the history of the little island dwellers)
3. we want an apology! (because we NEVER cheat! seriously? the biggest cheats in the world are raised in nz to play rugby)
ah well, enjoy the flights back to sa for playoffs for the umpteenth year in a row kiwis.

what is really interesting is that while the guilty crusader player has escaped exposure and punishment (and shame) due to a lack of evidence… SOME kiwi posters are suggesting no evidence proves no crusader did anything wrong…
… and… still with no evidence…
