Crusaders cleared of foul play

Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder has demanded an apology from the Bulls after eye-gouging allegations against his team couldn’t be substantiated by the Super Rugby citing commissioner.
Bulls forwards Chiliboy Ralepelle and Flip van der Merwe complained to referee Jaco Peyper that they had been eye-gouged during their match in Pretoria, won 32-30 by the Bulls. Peyper used a white card to refer the incidents to the citing commissioner.
According to reports in New Zealand, the commissioner has reviewed the video footage of the incidents in question and found the Crusaders not guilty.
‘The citing commissioner has reviewed it and after that review there was nothing in the video footage that would point to the allegation being substantiated,’ Sanzar chief executive Greg Peters said.
‘The citing commissioner also found it interesting that the Bulls did not follow through with a complaint within the four-hour window after the game.’
After the game, Blackadder said he was ‘bemused’ at the allegations and demanded an apology if they were found to be incorrect. Following the citing commissioner’s ruling and after looking at the footage, the Crusaders coach wonders why the Bulls would have made such claims.
‘The first one with Chiliboy, you would expect that the player would come out of the breakdown holding his eye, but he certainly didn’t. I wonder whether it was a negative ploy.’
Captain Kieran Read also said that he was disappointed with the Bulls for accusing the Crusaders of such tactics.
‘Initially I was really surprised at the allegations,’ he said. ‘It has now come out that there’s no case to answer.
‘It’s a kick in the guts to us because we’re men of integrity and it’s no surprise that it’s turned out the way it has.’

Without video proof, there is not much the citing commisioner can do about the claims by Chilli and Flip. I’m sure that if there was any video evidence of the eye gouging, we would’ve seen it by now on DSTV. I can’t see anything coming of this.
Just like nothing came of the claim of eye gouging by Heinrich Brussow a few years ago when we toured in Europe.
best to just get on with it.

i have very little doubt there is some basis for the complaints of chili and flip though.

@Rangerman… No, am fat and lardy, don’t brush teeth or wash hair, only wear hemp clothing and what I don’t wear I smoke. Oh and if I want to try look a a bit pretty a bit of camo stuff (mud and charcol) will do in a pinch, oh and no waxing of body hairs, have a couple of chin hairs but they make me look earthy so I am divine to my creatures.

That’s what we should be waiting for. In fact, the Bulls management should themselves actively look for video evidence and present it to the commisioner. In the absence of any evidence for such serious allegations WE are looking like the fools here.
There are minimum sanctions for eye gouging if a player is found guilty of that. In case of any evidence being found, the guilty party should be punished as such.
What do you mean I’m blase about it? Don’t you think if there was any proof of the incidents that it would’ve been all over our TV screen by now?

So I guess its their word against the Bulls players
No one was injured ( as I understand) so both teams need to move on

Rangerman, bunnyhuggers I know and associate with and well groomed ex kugel partygirls that are mostly married to professional men, they swill champagne at my place at least 3 X a week and we exchange notes. Some are rescuers and some have sancturies, my place is the meeting spot as I will have the largest and best sanctuary in Natal and I am central to every one. They all know me from other stuff before I decided to calm down and start this project which is almost complete. Actually it should be finished by now but builders do there own thing and don’t pitch all the time. Am not a fatty am a lean mean blond fighting machine lol, normally wear my hair in a plait or 2 plaits to keep it out the way when doing things outside or dealing with an animals. Looks wise, I am ok, did a bit of modeling when I was younger but am now a lot older, looks are in the eye of the beholder to some I may be fugly and to others not so fugly. Don’t know why people have this impression treehuggers are weirdos, oh and I am also a recent vegetarian, bout 6 months now.

If there was indeed some eye gouging that took place, and I have no reason to believe that Chilliboy and Flip would make it up, the citing commisioner will need proof to charge the guilty player. The fact that they alerted Spies about it during the match suggests to me that something untoward did take place. However I would like you to think back bout the HB incident a couple of years ago. Although there was proof that somebody scratched him around his eye, (photo) the citing commisioner could not act against a player because there was no video evidence on the culprit hence nobody could be charged.

Could be some retaliation involved which I doubt, but Chiliboi’s case sound a fabrication to me, he is not a dirty player and his involvements in rucks is minimal, there is nothing to instigate such a despicable act from a clean team like the Crusaders against him?

Most unions have their own camera teams to record their matches for analysis purposes and such. So there would be plent film material available to look for proof, from their own sources and that of the broadcaster.
All I’m saying that bleating about this without proper proof, will not bring us anywhere except making us look like a bunch of whinging fools.

I’ve seen Spies talk to the ref a few times. Obviously I couldn’t hear what they were talking about on every occasion. I can’t recall seeing Peyper inspecting the eye sockets of the two players but the fact that he issued a white card suggests that he must have been concerned about the allegations.
