Cheetahs sweat on Goosen
10 Apr 2012
Cheetahs flyhalf Johan Goosen will undergo a late fitness test on Friday to determine his availability for the team’s clash against the Chiefs.
Goosen, who is the tournament’s current top scorer with 111 points, left the field early in the second half during the Cheetahs’ 26-5 win over the Lions last weekend because of a shoulder injury. The injury came after Elton Jantjies’ high tackle on the 19-year-old, which resulted in an off-field yellow card for the Lions pivot.
Head coach Naka Drotske confirmed that Goosen will be carefully monitored during the week and a decision on his selection will be made on Friday. The Cheetahs face the Chiefs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
‘Johan suffered some damage to his AC joint in his shoulder. There’s some bruising in that area,’ Drotske told keo.co.za. ‘We will see how the injury heals this week and we will pick him if he is match fit.
‘If not, we have a dependable back-up in Sias Ebersohn. Sias had an outstanding Super Rugby campaign in 2011, so we know what he’s capable of.’

Don’t risk it if he is not 100%. Sias will be raring to reclaim the 10 jumper if possible.

@stormer in a teacup(stormer in a teacup)-3: Completely agree. Sias performed really well towards the end of seasons Super 15 campaign. Its a long season and he will have to get games at some stage. Goosen wont be able to start every game.

goosen has taken some big knocks already for a young guy…
i really hope they manage him well… he’s got a great future ahead of him and could rewrite the record books… (and he will if he’s kept fit…)

Big Blow for Cheetahs but they have good back-up.

Elton could not handle The Goose so he opted to take him out

Sias must be the best back up 10 of all SA teams. Very confident he wont let us down.

Bring on the Chiefs. Would be good for us as well as other SA teams if we can knock them down.

@Cheetahs27(Cheetahs27)-10: Will be Huge if Cheetahs can beat this rampant Chiefs side. Will give the Cheetahs a shot at the play-offs.

@Sasuke(Sasuke)-12: Yeah it would be huge. Play-offs would be awesome but consistency is going to be a major issue. We already very light at lock and in many other deparments. The long season could catch up with us at some stage. Hope not though.

Rest Goosen for this next game, even if he is able to play. Sias needs some game time, did y’all notice how the Cheetahs lost all their try scoring potency once Goosen left the field in the 2nd half agaist the Lions?

@stormer in a teacup(stormer in a teacup)-3: thats goin to be damn hard for sias considereing that johan goosen is by far the best fly half in sa and arguably the world…
Have your say
