Sarries down Irish

Saracens beat London Irish 28-19 on Saturday.

The result means the South African-laden club is currently in third position on the Premiership table, behind Harlequins and Leicester. There are two matches remaining in the competition.

Leicester scored a valuable 35-21 win over Northampton, while Harlequins tamed Wasps 33-17. Exeter beat Worcester 31-26 while a Gary Gold-coached Newcastle shocked Gloucester 29-20 away from home.

In the French Top 14, Frans Steyn played fullback in Racing Metro’s 40-19 drubbing of Brive. Clermont shot to the top of the table with a 25-9 win over Stade Francais, Bayonne beat Biarritz 24-19, and Montpellier were too strong for Lyon in a 43-12 win for the hosts.

The surprise of the day came when Joe van Niekerk’s Toulon went down 22-13 to Agen. Despite the loss, Toulon are third on the Top 14 log.
