Another blow for Dewald

Another blow for Dewald

Dewald Potgieter is set to miss the Bulls’ clash against the Brumbies and their overseas tour because of a hamstring injury.

According to SuperSport.com, the Bulls flanker is out for four to six weeks. He tore his hamstring after just 10 minutes during his first Super Rugby start this season against the Lions last Saturday. Potgieter will now miss the Bulls’ next match against the Brumbies on Saturday and the team’s tour to Australasia, which kicks off on 4 May.

The 25-year-old’s latest injury comes after he returned to match fitness five weeks earlier than expected following a cut to his arm. He suffered the freak injury while opening a window at a wedding, shortly before the start of the tournament and he was expected to be sidelined for 12 weeks.

The Bulls are still waiting on injury updates on prop Dean Greyling and lock Flip van der Merwe ahead of the team’s clash against the Brumbies in Pretoria. Flanker Deon Stegmann won’t be available for selection this weekend, but could still make the touring squad.

    Get well soon Pottie.

I’ve always rated this guy – matches the physicality of most players, but it is upstairs where he is really strong.

    what a great pity…

not only is he an excellent rugby player… and yes… brain too…

but he comes across as being a really good guy who conducts himself with dignity and respect for himself and others…

    As reported on news24…

He said on Twitter on Monday: “News regarding the scan: Grade 2 hamstring tear: 4-6 weeks. Just gonna keep my eye on the prize – the 10 minutes I played felt worth it.”

So keep your eye on the prize Dewald… Get well and come back stronger…

Dont get me wrong, i rate this guy, hes a good player BUT with Spies, Jacques Potgieter, CJ Stander, Arno Botha and Wiaan Liebenberg knocking on the door, i think Dewald and Stegmann should go overseas and get some Euros, imho of course

@Markel77(Markel77)-5: Could not agree more and I said much the same thing during the Bulls’game on the weekend. Dewald and Stegmann made sense when the alternatives were bigger but older and therefore slower players. Now that there’s a new breed of full-size players with plenty of gas in the tank, the half-pints shouldn’t get a look in.
