Bekker to miss Reds clash

Stormers lock Andries Bekker has been ruled out of Friday’s match against the Reds with a lower back injury.

Bekker went off during the first half of last Saturday’s game against the Crusaders. The Stormers management has confirmed that while the No 5 won’t feature this week, he will be assessed by the medical staff. At this stage there is no talk of Bekker coming home.

Meanwhile, the Stormers are confident that Eben Etzebeth will recover from a shoulder injury to start against the Reds. Etzebeth was also sidelined in the first half of last week’s game.

If further medical testing reveals that one of the Stormers starting locks is seriously injured and cannot complete the tour, Quinn Roux will join the side in Australia. At present, the Stormers have two good second-row alternatives, De Kock Steenkamp and Rynhardt Elstadt, in their touring squad.

Hindsight is twenty twenty vision etc etc, but just about everyoned felt that Bekker should have been rested for this match. Surely the Super 15 is a marathon and not a sprint. Anyhow, get weel soon “Anneries” – we will need you against England and later in Super Rugby campaign.

Great news that they are not seriously injured! I would also give Etzebeth a rest and play him off the bench. He has played 7 straight games. Elstadt and De Kock did well against the Crusaders let them have some more time together.

Bekker is fast becoming the new Andre Pretorius, play one game sit out three.
Shouldn’t have taken all those roids a few years ago ,it has a habit of catching up on you.
Anyway what are the Stormers winging about they started this game with three locks on the park and one on the bench.
So they played the whole game with two first class locks, except when that bonehead was yellow carded and who’s to blame for that.
Stormer’s problem are not in the front row but in the back row that is full of little Robbie Fleck clones that just can’t pass.
They should spend more time practising passing skills and less time on idiotic dance routines

Please point out the flaws in my post.
A lock with a bad back is about as good as a kicker with ankle problems , and when was the last time that de Jong passed a ball.
Next thing you’ll be telling me that Proudfoot is an advert for the type of physical conditioning you’d expect from a man who coaches professional athletes.

Bekker will always have back problems, the mans just to tall and skinny. Very good line out player but idk how long he’ll last …seems to be injured all the time.
