Boishaai run well, KES push Affies close

Schoolboy Derby reviews the top 1st XV action from around the country.

WESTERN CAPE:

Paarl Boys’ are still undefeated in 2012, and they extended their winning streak to six matches with a comfortable victory over Rondebosch at home. Boishaai dominated the first half as they held a 24-3 lead at the break, but Rondebosch came out a stronger team in the second stanza as the hosts failed to add to their advantage.

Paarl Gym came off a bye last weekend, and the rest did their boys well as they ran riot against Tygerberg (75-3). Outeniqua downed Boland Landbou 27-21, while Bishops thrashed Brackenfell 64-0.

EASTERN CAPE:

With Grey PE doing their thing in Stellenbosch, there was a host of derbies in th Eastern Cape. Queen’s’ 29-17 win over Selborne in an all-Border clash headlined the action. Daniel Pienaar also edged Framesby 26-25 in an exciting match.

Dale, who are showing great form this year, won convincingly at lowly Port Rex (64-19), while Hudson Park did well in a repsectable 17-14 defeat to Marlow.

KZN:

Michaelhouse have been impressive this year and they carried their fine form into their 24-22 away win over Westville. It was a tough game, but in the end, the visitors pulled through for the triumph.

Kearsney came off their break last weekend to thrash visiting St Charles 60-0, while Maritzburg College also had an easy outing against DHS (20-0).

Glenwood were held to a close contest against Hilton as the Green Machine only managed an 19-18 edging.

UP NORTH:

While there was top action in the Nu Power play-offs, there were other matches that stole a lot of attention.

The big one was the KES-Affies clash, which was a tight affair. The hosts have put together a strong 1st XV unit this year, and they challenged Affies well. KES led 13-5 in early in the second half, but the school from Pretoria showed why they’re one of the top rugby sides in 2012 as they rallied to a 15-13 comeback victory.

Monnas poor run continued as they fell to a 22-20 loss to HTS Middelburg. Grey Bloem won their Free State derby against Louis Botha 26-14.
