Weepu open to Canes return

Weepu open to Canes return

Piri Weepu says a move back to the Hurricanes next season is a possibility.

The All Blacks scrumhalf has experienced a disappointing year with the Blues in 2012, from riding the bench for most of the Super Rugby campaign to being questioned about his commitment to the Blues by the Auckland fans. The Blues are also struggling at the foot of the overall log.

Weepu, who is only signed on for one season, gets a start ahead of Alby Mathewson this weekend against the Reds. But the 28-year-old still admitted that he would return to the Hurricanes if the Wellington franchise showed enough interest. This would be a personal advantage for Weepu too, as he would be nearer to his young family.

‘I don’t know yet [whether I'd go back], they’ve got to want me first,’ Weepu told stuff.co.nz. ‘I can’t just say that I’m going somewhere. But at this stage I’ll leave all of that up to my agent.’

Weepu also added that a stint in Europe or Japan will not be an option in 2013, increasing the chances of a Wellington return should a move away from the Blues happen.

‘I’ve cancelled all options overseas. So I’ll stay here and try to make the most of it,’ he said.

Hammo, don’t take this fat primadonna & mess up what you’ve built after he chucked & left last year!

We’ll gladly take TJ Perenara in an exchange since we dont really have a halfback, Weepu is half of everything at the moment and Alby just cant play, period!

Cant see a bidding war here. Nobody wants an overweight prima donna with motivation issues.

The Kiwi journalist who wrote the real article that “inspired” this cut-and-paste job has done Piri no favours. He should have been smart enough to keep his mouth shut. Mark Hammett is starting to look like a genius: he got rid of the egos and his young team is flying (take note, Heineken). By contrast, the team that took the egos in is sinking like a stone. And now one of the rats has realized he picked the wrong ship.

Weepu is unlikely to be wanted by Wellington again

he is past it and is living on old reputation. He owes the Blues another season after what he did to them this season. Walking into a new team unfit!!

Expect Weepu to sign a contract for Japan or Europe soon. Writing on the wall and wont be selected by Hansen

Weepu — and Nonu — overrated themselves hugely and leapt from the frying pan into the fire. Now they’re regretting it. But there’s no path back from that fire back into the cosy frying pan again. It’s all over, Rover.
