Southern powers rise in Super clashes

The schools from the Western and Southern Cape all picked up wins on the second and final day of the Wildeklawer Super Schools in Kimberley.

Paul Roos picked up the big result of the day with a comfortable 32-22 win over Affies. The boys from Stellenbosch delivered a physical display to down their opponents, who struggled to build momentum against Paul Roos’s assault. The result saw Paul Roos enjoy an unbeaten run at the Wildeklawer Super Schools, while it was Affies’ second defeat of 2012.

Paarl Boys’ and Paarl Gym won their fixtures against Monument (32-28) and Waterkloof (38-11) respectively. Boishaai bounced back after being beaten by Affies on day one, while Gimmies eased past Klofies to add to their opening win over Glenwood.

There were also victories for the Southern Cape’s Outeniqua and Oakdale.

Grey Bloem fullback EW Viljoen scored a hat-trick in his team’s 41-22 triumph over EG Jansen, who led 12-0 in the opening minutes after grabbing two early tries. Maritzburg College came from behind to down hosts Diamantveld 32-27, with outside centre Daniel Kotze and fullback Jesse Kotze (twins) starring for the victors.
