Griquas, Pumas march on to semis
4 May 2012
Griquas beat the Pampas XV while the Pumas were too strong for the EP Kings in Friday’s Vodacom Cup quarter-finals.
Fullback Rudi Vogt scored 21 points in Griquas’ 26-18 win against the Pampas XV. The men from Kimberley led 23-6 after 50 minutes, but were made to fight for the victory in the last half hour as the Argentineans enjoyed a late surge.
Meanwhile, the Pumas beat the Eastern Province Kings 30-19 at the Mbombela Stadium. The hosts were always in control, and managed to put four tries past the Kings’ defence.
Griquas will play the winner of the Sharks XV vs Blues Bulls quarter-final, while the Pumas will tackle the victor of Saturday’s showdown between Western Province and the Lions.
Vodacom Cup quarter-final results:
Griquas 26 (17) – Try: Ligtoring Landman. Penalties: Rudi Vogt (7).
Pampas XV 18 (6) – Try: Gabriel Ascarate. Benjamin Madero. Conversion: Madero. Penalties: Madero (2).
Pumas 30 (17) – Tries: Ashley Buys, Torsten van Jaarsveld, Jaco Bouwer, Corne Fourie. Conversions: JC Roos (2). Penalties: Roos (2).
EP Kings 19 (9) – Try: SP Marais. Conversion: Justin van Staden. Penalties: Justin van Staden (4).

Told you the EP Kings are sheer rubbish. Lions will whip then by 30.

The Kings claims they will contract new players for next year. They can start with contracting the Puma team.

The best thing I can say about EP rugby is that they have a wonderful stadium.

Come on The Mighty Elephants!!!

Listen the Kings do not have any excuses. If they do not deserve to be in Super Rugby then that will be decided after the same amount of time as the Lions were afforded.
What does make me concerned is the Kings playing Super Rugby and not Currie Cup Rugby?

@ShaunSwindon(Karma-zaf)-6: They’re not good enough tp play Currie Cup rugby, lowly Boland proved that last year.

No sign of Getafix, Slappes, Transformation and their ilk?
Why am I not surprised.
The only thing super about the Kings is the fact that they’re super shite, wholly undeserving of super rugby. How aggrieved the Pumas must feel that this mob is even been thought of as an entrant.

@ShaunSwindon(Karma-zaf)-6:
Another piece of obfuscation from the Kings Choir. Very economical with the truth, as always.
The Lions were winners, of many Currie Cups (hell, even of a Super Rugby crown)and perennial performers in the highest echelons of South African domestic rugby when they went into super rugby.
The Kings have won fokkol, sweet fokkol, in the dungeons of domestic rugby competition.
Conveniently overlooked by the Eastern Cape entitlement mob, but the facts nonetheless.
Have your say
