Jean to face Cheetahs

Jean to face Cheetahs

Jean de Villiers has been cleared of his wrist injury and will be available for the Stormers’ next game against the Cheetahs.

Stormers coach Allister Coetzee has also confirmed that Gio Aplon (hamstring), Eben Etzebeth (shoulder) and Andries Bekker (back), have recovered from their injuries and will be available for next week’s match.

However, Schalk Burger, Duane Vermeulen and Nick Koster won’t be available for the next four matches. Coetzee hopes that the three loose forwards will be fit by 30 June when the Super Rugby competition recommences after a break for international matches.

Great news all round. Schalk and Duane especially back after Super Rugby break. Would give us some great options.

Stormers are looking like title contenders this year. Their big guns have been resting whilst the youngens have been doing some damage!!!

Brian might be a Bok, but not at outside centre. Move him to the wing instead of Poolman and play de , also a Bok, at 13.

Good News. Schalk, Duane and Koster will be raring to go after the June Break. Stormers have easy fixtures after the break (Cheetahs, Lions, Rebels) so it will be easy to rotate before the play-offs.

I would like to see Jean at 13 and keep JdJ at 12. Kitshoff’s performance has fell off the last week. Might he be tired or carry an injury. Give Deon Carstens a start against the Cheetahs.

  • 14.Sasuke: Reply to this comment

    So it seems like

    6. Kolisi
    7. Elstadt
    8. Carr

would have to go on until after the June Tests.

Is Don Armand the best back up for them?

    Where is Rohan Kitshoff?

Kitshoff is playing for the Vodacom team in the semi finals against the Lions tomorrow. He is in good form and scored 3 tries last weekend – he is however an opensider and does not compete with Don Armand who is a 7.

I am a genuine believer in Habs at 13. For the Boks. It may seem like a premature judgement, but I have a strong hunch he is going to soar in this position, on attack and defence.

  • 25.Sasuke: Reply to this comment

@Robzim(Robzim)-20: Kolisi can cover 7 and 8 as well, making Kitshoff a viable bench option.

Couldn’t resist it, although No Guru missed the dig.
As for Armand, we’ve 7 cover coming out of our ears, and whilst Kolisi has done a great job, he’s still a 7. A genuine 6 is where we’re a bit vulnerable.

I think the selectors are influenced by the fact that they need to have a tall player (like Armand) as a backup for the lineouts in case a lock or Elstadt gets injured. Kitshoff and Carr are both quite short while I am not sure whether Kolisi is any good as a line-out jumper either.

I fully agree- he is too short for a number 8 in the modern game at the highest level so the sooner he specialises as an opensider the better.

    Stormers can play it

    Kolisi
    Elstadt
    Carr

    or

    Carr
    Elstadt
    Kolisi

Hardly makes much difference either way. Fine balanced trio whichever way they prefer to pick their players.
