Stegmann returns for Bulls
8 May 2012
Frans Ludeke has pushed Deon Stegmann straight into the starting XV in an attempt to offset the loss of the injured Jacques Potgieter.
Potgieter has returned to South Africa with an injured hand and will play no further part on the Bulls’ tour of Australasia. The Bulls are fortunate to have Stegmann coming back from injury, and have confirmed that he will start at No 6 against the Waratahs.
Ludeke has made several other changes. Dean Greyling returned to Pretoria recently for the birth of his child, and won’t be available for the clash in Sydney. Dawie Steyn will start in the front row while Rayno Gerber has flown to Australia to provide cover from the bench.
Wynand Olivier has a rib injury and will only be available from next week. Ludeke has opted for a new midfield combination, with Francois Venter partnering Johann Sadie.
Bulls – 15 Zane Kirchner, 14 Akona Ndungane, 13 Johann Sadie, 12 Francois Venter, 11 Bjorn Basson, 10 Morné Steyn, 9 Francois Hougaard, 8 Pierre Spies (c), 7 CJ Stander, 6 Deon Stegmann, 5 Juandré Kruger, 4 Flip van der Merwe, 3 Werner Kruger, 2 Chiliboy Ralepelle, 1 Dawie Steyn.
Subs: 16 Willie Wepener, 17 Rayno Gerber, 18 Wilhelm Steenkamp, 19 Arno Botha, 20 Jano Vermaak, 21 Louis Fouché, 22 JJ Engelbrecht.

Great stuff!
Much more balanced loose trio combo.

Stegmann wasn’t “pushed straight into the starting XV in an attempt to offset the loss of the injured Jacques Potgieter”, JC.
He’s just that good that he demands a start, even after a lengthy layoff, regardless of whether the Potgieters play or not.

Waratahs will probably think they have a chance against this Bulls side.
Couple of newbies in there and some returning oldies.

Steggies is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
now watch the bulls snatch back their title of most penalised team from the Force

@Transformation(Transformation)-12: Bwahahahahahahahha, you just miss arguing with Agile so much admit it!
Great to see Sadie looking so average these days. Really vindicates AC’s decision.
That said, this Bulls team is gooood. Bulls by 10 as they’ll take the Tahs more seriously on D.

Who will miss more tackles, Spies or Stegmann?
8 May 2012, 12:46 pm
@WP Till I Die(WP-Forever)-14: Stegman. Because you can’t miss what you don’t attempt.

Didnt Potgieter injure his knee and Kirsten his hand?

Shame poor JJ

Stegmann was invisible when in Bok colors but he is an out and out fetcher and badly neededat this end of provincial level. Willie Wepener, IMO is a far better scrummager then Chillyboy. he should start.
Scrum continues to be concern for me

Potgieter and JJ Engelbrecht have been the weakest players on defense recently, missing at least six between them against the Rebels. Spies on the other hand made sixteen and missed none, while Stegmann is normally the Bulls player who makes the most tackles.
Getting over the advantage line is maybe the Bulls problem this week with Potgieter and Greying not playing, so we need big games from Flip, Kruger, Stander, Venter and Spies. Each one of them need to be that extra bit better.

@greatest13gerber(greatest13gerber)-19: Wepener is worse in all other departments, and it is the discilpine of our props that is the concern. I dont see Wepener changing that. On the other hand Chilliboy will need a rest at some stage.

Time to put some money on the Waratahs …

I’m really beginning to wonder about the identity of our friend Agile…The man’s fixation with Stegmann is beyond believe…worse than Tacitus’ Spies fanboyism. So my guess is that he must be
(a)Stegmann’s father
(b)Stegmann’s boyfriend (c)Oom Wynie Strydom (d) some random Bulle fan with a genuine Stegmann fetish.
Have your say
