Bad break for Stegmann

Bad break for Stegmann

Deon Stegmann will play no further part in the Bulls’ Australasian tour after breaking his arm against the Waratahs on Friday.

The openside flank, who was in his first match back from a lengthy injury lay-off, pulled up badly after an attempted tackle and was substituted immediately thereafter. The extend of the injury is not yet known.

Stegmann will be replaced by Dewald Potgieter who has been recovering from injury. Prop Dean Greyling is also en route to New Zealand after the birth of his child.

    Steggies has given us sterling service over the years but he’s become injury prone. Maybe we should make Tecklenburg and Okkie Kruger our first line fetchers and use Steggies as backup?

    i reckon stegmann’s arm was broken before THAT tackle…

    he was quite clearly hanging his arm down and protecting if from the tackle while trying to do the biz with his shoulder and other arm…

    his broken arm didn’t make contact with anything and he reacted in a helluva lot of pain… so it was clearly broken before…

    when i don’t know… but respect to him for trying to play while in such pain…

    commiserations to him…

    stay positive and fit…

    you’ll be back…!!

    @ufo(ufo)-5: If you watch the tackle again you will see his wrist or just below hit the guy being tackled on the forehead.

    @SteveWarren(SteveWarren)-6:

    yeah possibly… but not enough to break his arm…

    look how his arm is just hanging before going into the tackle… almost like a ‘dead’ arm… and it swings forward from the momentum of the hit…

    looks to me anyway…

    Stegmann is a very courageous player. Two seasons back I recall watching him play the Chiefs, go down injured and was trying to recover on the wing – and yet managed to throw himself into a tackle before being taken off. Lots of guts and commitment. Hope he recovers from this one. This seems to be year of injuries for loose-forwards!
