Brawling pair punished
13 May 2012
Deon Fourie and Ashley Johnson have been issued off-field yellow cards for their part in a scuffle in Saturday’s match between the Cheetahs and Stormers.
A Sanzar citing commissioner found that the pair had contravened Law 10.4 (m) Acts Contrary to Good Sportsmanship. Johnson and Fourie were involved in a scuffle where they began throwing punches at each other. These actions caused a number of players to become involved in several scuffles that broke out following the initial scuffle.
In this case the incident was acted on by the referee for the match: Steve Walsh who penalised and issued a yellow and white card for a prior incident of foul play to Stormers flank Rynhardt Elstadt. Walsh then issued a white card for all of the events that followed.
On further review of the match footage the citing commissioner deemed an off-field yellow card was appropriate for Fourie and Johnson.

30 dragons in a scuffle and only 2 yellow cards and they have affect on the game. I think the white card system is a bit of a farce to be honest.

Oops, typo. They have no affect on the game. I think the TMO can just step in and confirm who started the fight and the guys get carded. This ensures the opposition team gets an advantage.

Oh well at least fourie v johnson was not a mismatch

Carding Elstadt was a bullsh*t call. His knee accidently bumped a cheetahs players head in the process of getting up.Not intentional.wtf?

Its really simple. A punch should be red and 2 week suspension. I promise, the fighting would stop quickly when the players lose match fees
13 May 2012, 08:52 am
An addendum to me previous post, a punch should be a 2 week suspension per punch thrown. Throw 2 punches, get 4 weeks.

the highlight for me was coenie being owned by estebeth nogal with one hand behind his back. Coenie is estebeths *****

Etsebeth the new Enforcer. His uncle Skattie would be very proud of him. I am amased hoe Eben can play the role of enforcer at age 20/21 AND to focus his aggression on the ball. This is where professionalism has made a huge difference! Thought Walsh was not in control of the game and when this happens, it eventually boils over. A yellow card for the ref, perhaps?

Rugby should learn from ice hockey…let the boys drop the gloves and moer each other…at least then it would be exciting watching the stormers play….haha!!!

@superbru. I am also sure he did not try to break strauss neck on purpose, but it shows he can’t control himself. Hopefully Alberts will show Elstadt wie is baas in 2 weeks time.

that dropped knee by Etsebeth was as deliberate as it was sneaky. he got caught and copped a card. thats how it goes. its the role of an enforcer. some just take it further than others. in hs defence, he can normally focus on the ball and not get pulled into shenanigans that make him lose focus.
ala Bekker, the Du Plessis brothers, Bakkies, etc etc.

@roobarb2(roobarb2)-11: What game were you watching. I think you owe Mr Etsebeth a massive apology. It was Elstadt who went to the bin, just in case you missed it.
13 May 2012, 13:17 pm
I don’t think rooibarbie actually watched the game.
13 May 2012, 15:17 pm
Roobarbie = lions fan

@Superbru(Superbru)-4: That was unintentional? Dude, you’re a joke!! ROFL!!
The whole week everybody wondered why Deon Fourie was included before Tiaan. Now everybody knows. Dirty-player-elite.
13 May 2012, 16:35 pm
That Fourie needs a PK… Windgat…
13 May 2012, 16:52 pm
Does anybody know who the citng commissioner was? How was Elstadt not cited for his tackle on Strauss? Michael Rhodes got ? 7 weeks for a similar tackle. I bet the CC was Freek Burger.

i did watch the game actually, and acknowledge my mistake
it was between braaing and some beers so i stand corrected. However the comments about the dropped knee stands as does the comments about Etsebeth. All those Stormers layers look the same to me anyway.
and i’m a Bulls supporter btw.

I don’t know how many penalties were awarded. But something appeared to be very strange. In die 1st half the Cheetahs were penalised in the scrums relentlessly. In the 2nd exactly the opposite happened. How does this come about? as far as I can recollect, not a single penalty in teh Cheetahs half.
13 May 2012, 19:49 pm
the penalties, especially at scrumtime, seem to be a lottery at best lately.
13 May 2012, 21:07 pm
Fourie was picked specifically to try and counter Brussow on the deck, He did OK but did lose his cool a few times.
I thought the Cheetahs came with a lot of niggle.
They got what they were asking for.
If it wasn’t for an intercept try when the Stormers were attacking the Cheetahs line it wouldn’t have been that close, but that’s the way it goes,
The vultures who are circling and hoping for the Stormers’ demise must be pretty much starved by now.
Fuckem all.
13 May 2012, 21:18 pm
ifs and buts stormersboy. if the cheetahs kicked their penalties they could have won.
just sayin.
13 May 2012, 21:23 pm
@roobarb2(roobarb2)-22: Grant missed too.
No ifs or buts, We got the win.
Save the ifs and buts for the Cheetahs supporters on the site
13 May 2012, 23:39 pm
you first, Stormersboy: “If it wasn’t for an intercept try when the Stormers were attacking the Cheetahs line it wouldn’t have been that close, but that’s the way it goes,”
just sayin.

Why is it that the team with the best disciplinary record suddenly ends up throwing handbags? Watch the Sharks, and Lions game, the handbags will come out again, every year it’s the same. If you can’t beat them intimidate them and then try to moer them.
14 May 2012, 07:26 am
Any team that can defend their line for over 26 phases with 14 men deserve to win the game.
14 May 2012, 08:09 am
There wasn’t a single punch thrown in that scuffle – is the sighting commissioner Blind? Probably never played a game in his Life – This isn’t Soccer!!

@saru1983(saru1983)-7: jeez that was funny…rewound it twice
Coenie was all set for some serious dood-poesing until he got treated like a noisy cockatiel by etsebeth.
Wonder if he fell asleep for a second?
14 May 2012, 08:57 am
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-21: Its in their nature to use those tactics when they know that they inferior the the opposition.. I recall Ollie le Roux being used to get under Bakkies’ skin many a time, and when Bakkies ****-klapped him, and got send to the bin, there were high-fives all around by the Cheetahs teammates. Skelm klomp etters, those Cheetahs..
14 May 2012, 09:22 am
What does this mean ? Do they get to play for 10 mins less ?
14 May 2012, 10:17 am
In response to ‘mettie:’
1st half Cheetahs scrum penalties vs. 2nd half no Cheetah’s scrum penalties.
Quite simple, Ceonie Oosthuizen hadn’t settled and could not get a good bind. He rectified the situation and showed the class that will make him a Springbok buy scrumming the **** out of Brock Harris.
14 May 2012, 11:32 am
@Superbru(Superbru)-4: he should have been off for the strangle tackle and throw on Adriaan Strauss earlier in the first half, so swings-and-roundabouts
Have your say
