Morahan slapped with yellow
14 May 2012
Luke Morahan has been issued with an off-field yellow card for his tip-tackle on Sonny Bill Williams during the Reds’ victory over the Chiefs on Sunday.
The Reds fullback was lucky to escape immediate sanction, as the referee’s assistant spotted the incident but failed to identify the player responsible. However, Morahan has copped an off-field yellow for the transgression.
The citing commissioner deemed that Morahan contravened Law 10.4 (j) Dangerous Lifting Tackle, Lifting a Player from the ground and either dropping or driving that player’s head and/or upper body into the ground whilst the player’s feet are off the ground is dangerous play.
This will come as little consolation for the Chiefs. They were trailing by 12 points when the incident occurred, and had Morahan received a yellow card at that point they may well have closed the gap.

It looks like had SBW not extended his arm out, he would have landed on his head.
His reaction was so angry & he shoved luke backwards

What actually happens when you get an off field yellow????
Glad the refs missed that one as it keeps the Bulls at 1!!!

I catually thought SBW made it worse with his wriggling and twisting.
His reaction when one of the Reds tried to apologise was disgraceful.

Why hasn’t this guy been suspended? Ranger, Strauss, Hougaard, etc all copped bans for tip tackles.
What the hell is an off-field yellow anyway? I’ve seen the question posed a few times. No one seems to know.
Sounds like a “We saw what you did, now you go back to your room and have a good think about what you did” kind of punishment.

Rugby rules are becoming the most complex around. I think an off field yellow counts cumulatively against a players disciplinary record such that if he receives additional yellow cards up to a certain number, he will have to sit out a match
@jeest – good J_esus but SBW wanted to sort the guy out. What a mouthful he gave him. And if looks alone could kill. But then again, despite the obvious spear tackle, which backline player in their right mind provokes a 194 cm 108kg professional heavyweight boxer

@7 K
Equally Worse is why oh why can’t the ref ask the TMO for the offender’s jersey number?

I believe he’s precluded from doing so

@viewer(viewer)-9: because:
1 On-field Referee Referral to Citing Commissioner
Instances where a referee thinks an act of foul play has occurred but is not sure if a red card is warranted, or is unsure of the identity of a player
Where a player makes a complaint to a referee who did not see an incident
Can be in addition to a yellow card or penalty
Referred to the Citing Commissioner for review
Marius Jonker is an embarrassment to South Africa, he is just rubbish. He clearly doesn’t know the rules!
i don’t know how much more Lyndon Bray can cover for this oke!

So…..how does this affect Morahan? He gets a yellow card after the game…..YAY…..does he miss the first 10 minutes in the next game he plays? LOL
What I would like to know is that there are THREE officials on the field…..they’re BIG white numbers on a bright read shirt….how the hell do you miss that? Besides….all he had to do was look up at the big stadium screen and he would have seen it all on there with the number for all to see!

AGHH….typo…..”read shirt” should read “red shirt”……damn dyslexic fingers! lol

@CT Shark(CT Shark)-13:
best of all in the bulls brumes game…how does Jonker miss a big white ball when it is dropped forward! you find that problem you will solve the riddle in the Reds game!

@viewer(viewer)-8:
I think a 194 cm 108kg boxer on a rugby pitch is the best target for some antagonism…boxers self taught to fire up…when someone else does it for them they become a ticking time bomb. get him ticking and he will be your b.i.t.c.h for the whole game. you may get moered but he will get the yellow!!

@CT Shark(CT Shark)-13: Totally agree.
We all (myself included) spend lots of time bagging the refs. Although I believe a lot of this criticism is justified we often overlook the fact that the assistant refs have been ******* useless for about 4 years.
Offsides, blatantly forward passes, illegal play, knock ons etc etc very rarely get picked up by these blokes. It’s like they are just there to stroll around and enjoy the atmosphere. someone needs to remind them that they are there to work.
Have your say
