Bok trio returns for Bulls

The Bulls were bolstered by the return of Wynand Olivier, Dewald Potgieter and Dean Greyling for Saturday’s clash against the Highlanders in Dunedin.

In midfield, Olivier replaces Francois Venter, who drops out of the match 22, while Potgieter comes in at flank for Deon Stegmann. Greyling missed last weekend’s match against the Waratahs due to the birth of his child, but starts at loosehead prop, with Dawie Steyn watching from the stands.

Morné Steyn will play is 100th Super Rugby match for the franchise, becoming the sixth Bulls player to do so.

Bulls - Zane Kirchner, 14 Akona Ndungane, 13 Johann Sadie, 12 Wynand Olivier, 11 Bjorn Basson, 10 Morné Steyn, 9 Francois Hougaard, 8 Pierre Spies (c), 7 CJ Stander, 6 Dewald Potgieter, 5 Juandré Kruger, 4 Flip van der Merwe, 3 Werner Kruger, 2 Chiliboy Ralepelle, 1 Dean Greyling.
Subs: 16 Willie Wepener, 17 Rayno Gerber, 18 Wilhelm Steenkamp, 19 Arno Botha, 20 Jano Vermaak, 21 Louis Fouché, 22 JJ Engelbrecht.

Tough game, I’m going for Landers. Bulls haven’t been great on tour and Landers more desperate for points.

Out of form Sadie, back from injury Meisiekind and Potgieter.

If the Landers play with same width, intensity and speed like they did last week then this game could go hopelessly wrong for Bulls.

Landers will match the Bulls upfront and IMO have more game breakers out wide.

Landers unlucky last week, they desperate for points and playing at home. Some players for example Gear will be feeling aggrieved being left out of NZ squad.

    I’m definitely going Landers.

Bulls to take this, highlander misfiring at the moment, lost 2 on the bounce, disrupted by injuries too. morne to have no threats as chris noakes & delany are average. if tamati is playing he might have a field day blitzing past sadie.

Holding thumbs for a successful (and injury free!) outing for Dewald Potgieter.

Bulls to take this… If they lose… Mountain to Climb…

The highlanders will be tough and if the Bulls let them cross the advantage line continiously with these smother tackling tactics, trying to hold the ball up, it will quickly become a very long day.
Also, they need to sort out the scrums, cannot afford to give away penalties in the setpieces like creepy dudes giving kids sweets in a park.
They have the winning of this game, but its not just for pitching up.

i also find that watching the game with a welding mask makes the pink kit a lot more bearable. i’m painting my mask blue and sticking horns on it.

@roobarb2(roobarb2)-10: The highlanders pile guys into the ruck.

Guru. Bulls are unbeaten so far on your. Your claim they haven’t been great on your is pretty hollow.

@stormer in a teacup(stormer in a teacup)-13: They let the Rebels score 5 tries and won by just a few points. They also just snatched victory in the last few minutes against the Waratahs. So yes they are winning but they are not playing that great.

@stormer in a teacup(stormer in a teacup)-13: Unlike the Stormers who beat the Reds and Highlanders convincingly, lost against the Crusaders within 7 and comfortably beat the Force in terrible conditions with a few key players out. The next 2 weeks will be tough for Bulls. I dont think they will pull off 2 wins though.

Really tough call – look traditionally the Bulls havent done well in the South island – call on all the ancestors at the House of Pain – make some steaks out of these pretenders

As a Bulls fan, I can’t see us take this one. We scraped through against lesser opposition in Oz. The Landers will punish us this weekend. We simply concede too many penalties in the scrum and the Landers swarm the breakdown giving you little counter attacking opportunities. If the bully boys in the form of Flip, Dean, CJ, Werner, etc. can at least counter their trademark ‘swarming’ technique we might have a half chance (of saving face).

The bulls have a good chance of winning this game v highlanders, the kiwis are not as good as they were and the bulls confidence must be up and they will be ready for this game.

JJ Engelbrecht for Sadie and Arno Botha for Spies and the Bulls’ chances improve.
