Hooper cited
18 May 2012
Brumbies flank Michael Hooper has been cited for foul play during a match against the Hurricanes.
Hooper lifted Hurricanes No 8 Victor Vito in a tackle and brought him to the ground while his legs were still in the air.
Referee Mark Lawrence penalised Hooper for the incident, and upon further review of the match footage the citing commissioner deemed the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play.
The citing is to be considered in the first instance by Sanzar duty judicial officer Mike Heron.

In mitigation of sentence, after all hooper at 97kg 182cm lifted vito 112kg 192cm off the ground. Consider that the average adult cannot perform just one sit-up

Size is relative of course. Frik du Preez would be too small for a lock nowadays.

I’m not against penalising people for “spear tackles” but this is getting ridiculous. At worst that tackle was a penalty. All we are going to see now is people rolling in tackles and lifting their legs so that it looks like a spear tackle and the tackler gets sent.
There was nothing in that tackle, he landed on his shoulder.
Rugby has become an absolute joke, there is no way this tackle was worse then the one on SBW last weekend and that wasn’t too bad either. Sometimes if you squirm and carry on in contact you are going to be dropped.
Have your say
