Saders smash abysmal Blues
19 May 2012
SIMON BORCHARDT watched the Crusaders score nine tries in their 59-12 thrashing of the Blues in Christchurch.
The Saders put last week’s shock defeat to the Rebels behind them with a clinical performance against the second-worst team in the tournament. They dominated the scrums and lineouts, and created pressure by stringing the phases together and forcing their opponents to make tackle after tackle.
The Crusaders shot out to a 12-0 lead after as many minutes thanks to tries to flanker Matt Todd, who scored from a driving maul, and right winger Adam Whitelock, who took advantage of an overlap that came after another good passage of play from the forwards.
A foot in touch from Sam Whitelock cost the second rower a try in the corner at the end of the first quarter, but the Crusaders stole the lineout ball and captain Richie McCaw was driven over.
The Crusaders scored another two tries just before half-time, through lock Luke Romano and hooker Corey Flynn, to make it 31-0.
That became 45-0 after 10 minutes of the second half, with scrumhalf Andy Ellis being put away from a scrum and Flynn grabbing his double.
The Crusaders then made several substitutions, which disrupted their momentum, and Blues replacement Lachie Munro was able to score two tries, the second coming after the full-time hooter.
But the hosts were able to add another two of their own, with winger Zac Guildford and replacement fullback Tom Marshall completing the rout.

a nervous game for dragon slayer fans, i suspect

If the Crusaders can’t beat the Blues (and beat them thoroughly), then the Saders do not deserve to be in the playoffs. That’s what I reckon.

May be an upset here

@AiDoc(AiDoc)-3:
The Blues are indeed coming off a win, but it was only a win over the lowly Lions. The Blues were also playing at home in that match.
The Crusaders have had their pride injured after underestimating and losing to the Rebels and the Cantabrians won’t be making that mistake again.
So yeah, while I am not completely discounting the possibility of an upset, I do think it is highly unlikely. For example, Piri Weepu isn’t going to magically lose weight and regain form just because the Blues beat the worst team in the competition a week before.

The CRU have not played well this year. DC at 10 might make the difference. The BLU always struggle without Toeava.
19 May 2012, 09:48 am
I must say Piri does a whole lot of nothing
19 May 2012, 09:50 am
Crusaders are gonna give the Blues a hiding.
19 May 2012, 10:04 am

Flippin heck….Blues fucckt in the head
19 May 2012, 10:07 am
@scrumfan(scrumfan)-8: Excellent. This may just be me being selfish, but I really need the Crusaders to win. I’ve got $700 riding on the Crusaders to win, so them giving the Blues a hiding would be very nice!!!

Blues are getting murdered.

Crusaders looking ominous with Carter at 10

Crusaders are seriously dominant, but I do find this starstruck bias by the refs a little irritating. Every 50-50 call goes the way of King Richie, Lord Dan and the Princes of Whitelock. It’s like the refs are scared the Crusaders players won’t shake their hands afterwards.
19 May 2012, 10:25 am
Disregard my comments above. Lol!!!
19 May 2012, 10:25 am
@kaksioek(kaksioek)-12: Wait. So first the Blues are getting a hiding, now they’re getting murdered? My night keeps on getting better and better!
To be honest, out of all the bets I made this weekend this match was the one I was worrying about the most. So I am quite a bit relieved. Over the hump and all that.
Come on Crusaders, don’t drop the ball in the second half. Speaking figuratively AND literally!

@Todd W(Todd W)-16: Are you not able to watch the game? Don’t worry, your money is safe.
19 May 2012, 10:35 am
Pat Lam must GO!
Now, not next week or next season, after the game he must quit! His team is nowhere! It’s like watching the Bulls of 2000 – 2003
19 May 2012, 10:36 am
Blues have given up already. And with more than half an hour to go, this could be embarrassing.
19 May 2012, 10:39 am
Piri Weepu is about 5 meals ahead and 4 sh!ts behind!
19 May 2012, 10:40 am
looking at 60+ here, poor ********.
19 May 2012, 10:40 am
@kaksioek(kaksioek)-17: No, I’m unfortunately not able to watch the game. Too poor.
However, maybe I’ll use some of the money I win tonight and get myself satellite TV! It would be nice to watch the games live…

@scrumfan(scrumfan)-20: Yes, about 4 wee poos.

Corey Flynn gets his second.
19 May 2012, 10:42 am
Another Blues coaching disaster….Pat Lam has turned Mighty Blues into little softies
19 May 2012, 10:43 am
@scrumfan(scrumfan)-20: LMAO!!!
Good one!!
(I don’t want to sound like a jerkarse, but I really don’t care about the Blues. I backed them time and time again, week after week, and their senior All Black stars rewarded my faith by playing **** rugger. They’ve gone well past the point at which they can demand politeness and respect from their fans.)

If it hasn’t been used already, the headline in the NZ Herald on Monday should be “Lam to the slaughter.”

Well, really feel for my team, they don’t deserve this. But since we’re sitting at the bottom, it’s time to rebuild and resurrect Auckland rugby from grassroots to provincial to Blues. Successful franchises, enterprises, businesses are top down and we are sadly run by a group of people who are loyal to a fault and it’s that ignorance that has taken us from elite to what were seeing tonight.
John Kirwan and Wayne Pivac for coaching staff. Graham Henry in there as mentor. Bring in better players in the draft. Time to let go of a few silver foxes in Ali Williams and Daniel Braid, Keven will probably be heading off overseas as well.
19 May 2012, 10:51 am
45 – 0?
Watsup bru!
19 May 2012, 10:53 am

@cane(cane)-39: ha ha, I hope you’re not driving tonight. You’re in no condition.
19 May 2012, 11:00 am
Ouch.
19 May 2012, 11:00 am
Guildford scores. And you get the feeling there’s more where that came from.
19 May 2012, 11:01 am
@cane(cane)-39: Howzit cane, you know much about Scott FuGlistaller? Came on for landers and I know he’s a Wellington lad. Remember seeing him in schools rugby and colts level and thought he was better than Todd and cane and braid.
19 May 2012, 11:05 am
The Blues are just plain useless
That said in this Mood the Saders would be beating anyone, fantastif team to watch when they get the BIT between the teeth

The scary thing is that the Blues beat the Lions last week. What kind of score are the Reds going to put on the Lions in the next game? 100? 200?
19 May 2012, 11:07 am
Spose we wont be seeing much of Pops today
19 May 2012, 11:07 am
