Guma Tac to boost Kings
19 May 2012
The Southern Kings are set to receive a handy cash injection with news that Guma Tac intends to invest in South Africa’s newest Super Rugby franchise.
Guma Tac, which is jointly owned by Robert Gumede and Ivor Ichowitz, parted ways with the Lions but are still determined to make a telling contribution to rugby in this country. On Friday it was confirmed Guma Tac had been in discussions with the Kings.
‘We are committed to supporting the Kings rugby franchise, provided Saru places them in a position where they are able to compete in Super Rugby and it is not simply a one-year token participation,’ Ichikowitz said in a statement.
‘It is our belief that the Kings have waited long enough and are more than deserving to be given the opportunity to participate in Super Rugby.’
Guma Tac said it hoped to initiate a high performance structure at the Kings which focused on developing local talent from villages and townships in the Eastern Cape.
‘There are substantial amounts of players participating in Super Rugby that come from the Eastern Cape,’ Gumede said.
‘It is a shame that they have been forced to ply their trade elsewhere. This team needs the opportunity to demonstrate their potential. We intend to provide this for them.’
The Kings have already been guaranteed participation in the 2013 Super Rugby competition. Saru has however, delayed finalising the structure of next year’s tournament in terms of which of the existing five franchises will fall away. This decision will only be finalised on 7 July.
‘The delay to finalise 2013 and the pending Kings inclusion is creating frustration and putting the Kings in a situation where they may not have enough time to secure quality players and sponsors,’ Gumede said.
‘The value of an investment is in the quality of players attracted to the team. One cannot build an elite performance team with contract players entering retirement.
‘As equity partners, we hope to attract players who are playing on merit for other franchises to come back to their home team and are committed to supplementing them with South African and international marquee players. To achieve this, we would need to be able to offer long term contracts.
‘We urge Saru to be decisive on this matter so that we can make a long-term commitment.’

And GumaTicTac also said they would only invest in the EP Kings IF SARU guaranteed them entrenchment to 2015.
Otherwise known as an escape clause.
Or holding a pistol to the head in a badly arranged shotgun marriage.
What SARU does need to do is find a solution to 2015 and if they have been unable since 2005 to do this in over 7 years – how the hell are they going to do this come 7 July?
Next up is arbitration – then court action – then settlements and before you know it there is a Super 18 from 2016-2020
19 May 2012, 08:07 am
How are they going to “invest”?
SARU own 50% of the Southern Kings and the marketing arms of EP Kings, Border and SWD. In terms of SARU regulations a third party may not own more than 49% of a franchise or marketing arm of a union.
So all that’s going to happen is that Gumatac buys out SARU and SARU gets the money.
Or is SARU going to sponsor the Kings even further by gifting them the SARU shareholding?

This Kings business makes me sick to the stomach… I have a retching, puking feeling whenever I read the Hyena like antics revolving around this bullshit debacle.
This fait accompli is going to lead to huge divisions in SA Rugby between administrators, players and fans.
Just from this fans point of view, interest in next years participation of this Kings team – a window dressing sop to “transformation” in Rugby if ever there was one – will extend to glorious schadenfreude whenever and wherever they get fcked up by any team.
From Canberra to Dunedin, Durban to Perth, I will absolutely delight in any loss and celebrate one sided slaughter. I hope and pray for embarrassment, not out of hate for the players or the region but out of intense dislike for the serious dishonesty, corruption – monetary and ethically, of groups and individuals, mainly those from lily livered inept and incompetentcunts from SARU, and how they have proceeded with this clusterfuck.
I hope all honest supporters, rugby players and administrators feel exactly the same way, because if not, then the plug truly has been pulled in the rank, muddied, dirty bath of South African Rugby… This corrupt, inept, incompetent bath truly will be thrown out with the tepid bathwater and ultimately deserves to be.
Now let me go and pleasurably vomit on a Kings Jersey.

I reckon all honest Rugby fans should become Lions supporters for the rest of this Super Rugby tournament.
The Lions are Currie Cup Champs FFS! Surely that counts for something?
I hope that the Lions win the rest of their games in Super Rugby just to provide a glimmer of hope for honest Rugby in SA.
Lions players need to rise up and play for their team mates, supporters, their City, Union and ultimately for what is left of honour in SA Rugby.
If this means my Sharks should lose to a miraculously rejuvenated team then so be it.
Every win is a punch in the lopsided hypocritical, unethical, inept two face of SARU… It is a blow to the sternum of political expediency…
Come on Lions… Spirit of early 90′s… Rise up and give a collective middle finger to the c.unts. Boardroom machinations might help but on field courage and guts is the best way to make this fcked up excuse of a “decision” as difficult as possible.
Make your supporters believers. Make all honest SA Rugby fans believers. That the Lions, Currie Cup Champs and only one of 2 SA teams to win Super Rugby, are here to STAY!!!

@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-3: Agree 100%. Isn’t it funny how this Guma Tac bunch all of a sudden develop this love & affection for the Eastern Cape only after their proposed deal in their “home province” went sour?
19 May 2012, 09:40 am
Heavens Gate, just because you have a big cheque book, does it mean you are a decent rugby team?
Kings will still have to have a 3 year contract, in my opinion. Lions have had their time in SupeRugby and it has just been an easy ride. Their players get free trips overseas and never win a game. Snigger, snigger.
Lions were found out in SupeRugby because they are just a CC side or more like a Vodacom Cup side. They only won the the CC because they had a consistient team last year …. i.e. NO BOKS in it so they could play together every week.
I don’t care much about the Lions. I adopted the Bulls over 10 years ago when I moved to Jhb. I came from EL/PE and look forward to the Kings being in the SupeRugby. I know more about the rugby in Eastern Cape than most people here. It is rich in tradition, healthy in the schools and played by the blacks. I look forward to seeing kids from my old school (best in EC and ranked higher than any Jhb school) playing SupeRugby where they should be playing, instead of for other provinces.
What have the Lions actually done for development? You rape other provinces for players. You can’t develop at the grassroots level.
So Heavens Game, put a cork in it and go cry on someone elses shoulder. EC people can also have their say.

@BrumbiesBoy(BrumbiesBoy)-5: Yup, the same bunchocunts who have more than a little revenue problem since the Tollroad clusterfuck….
It seems everything Guma touches turns to sh.it… Actually I cannot think of a better sponsor for the Kings and all they represent…. Meaningful Rugby development not being part of this either.
Kings stand for the swill of the expediency, window dressing and incompetency Pigtrough…

This is old news. It broke in Feb but the wee half man spin doctor sees it fitting to only post this story now. The news that wants entrenchment into superrugby is also old news from Feb but again the Imp only post that little news item now.
So what does this mean, besides the death of the Lions. It means some money for SARU, yes sell 49% of the Kings to Guma so that they can have something in the kitty to fight off the KdK in court and pay whatever compensation to the Lions they are ordered to. Smart move by Roux.
It also means that the predator Gumede will be free to once again go after the best, like Beast and make them offers they cannot refuse. His immediate target will be the guppies and FS, raid their ranks, break contracts and buy a team.
Watch this space fellows.
19 May 2012, 09:53 am
@JustAnotherFan(JustAnotherFan)-6: And you are a blind expedient twat…
Tolerant of dishonesty, ignorant of incompetence…
Actually why the fck are you in Gauteng…? Why dont you fck off back to the Land of the Kings and support your “marvellous” team right there?
Schools in the EC are good but they also represent the huge inequality that is present in the EC… You went to Dale, Selbourne or Queens? Whoopeedoo fckface… Just down the road from those centres of privilege are excuses for schools without classrooms or books.
I find it immensely ironic that one of the rallying cries for having the Kings in Super Rugby while at the same time destroying another Union is that there are such “good rugby schools” in the EC… Yes, schools of privilege, not development….
Typical of the hypocrisy around this debacle…
Ignorant farken cnut… Fck off back to Stutterheim or wherever else you may have come from in the EC…
19 May 2012, 09:58 am
@RL(RL)-8: You Lion cub pussycat of a fool… Gumede just aint got enough money to do these fanciful things you talk about.. Guma will struggle to pay the Pukes salary, never mind trying to bring that “famous” Eastern Caper, Beast, back to the Eastern Cape.
19 May 2012, 10:10 am
What a way to rub salt into the Lions wounds.
19 May 2012, 10:12 am
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-10: when Gumede steals Beast, Lambie, Coetzee and flies Frans Steyn to the Oyster Box to get his signature then come and talk to papa.
19 May 2012, 10:14 am
What money is Gumede going to pump into the Kings? Gijima is about to retrench hundreds of staff after the etolling nosedive, they lost a mountain of cash in the home affairs/World Cup fiasco, they tried to squeeze some pennies from the Lions because they’re skint, and now they want to be the financial saviours of the crooked Kings? Pull de udder one.
I’m with HG on this one. I will be willing them to be embarrassed at every available opportunity.
19 May 2012, 10:25 am
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-10: Beast a “famous” Eastern Caper? Zim in the Eastern Cape now is it?
19 May 2012, 10:27 am
These underhanded tactics are sure;y gonna make the kings unpopular with some of the fans. Its gonna become a “pick any team against the kings” even shudder aussie team lol.

@thesaint(thesaint)-14: thats how smart the subhumans are create new history and watever else helps them boost their self-esteem.
19 May 2012, 10:32 am
It seems that SARU is prepared to pay the team that is relegated the same tv money they do to the other teams so that they can stay alive – not sure that will cover it though as they won’t have sponsor and gate money…….but could have if there was another tournament that fans in East London PE & George could attend. Must be all 3 cities in tthe Southern Kingdom to grow the game
19 May 2012, 10:33 am
@Blitzbok(Blitzbok)-17: Jaysus, Barend-Hendrik, that’s not cool.
19 May 2012, 10:35 am
@groen(groen)-15: watch how many players they wont be developing as well. these fools thoink they can just buy loads of black players that other unions have produced and call themselves the craddle of sa rugby! hahahahahahha! it aint going to be so rosey me thinks. i hope they become a pariah and i know that cheeky is a twisted psychopath who wont be able to keep his filthy subhuman paws out of things or shut his hole either. i cant wait for them to fail. any boofhead that thinks this team have a shot at anything are stupid arseholes. anyone who supports them is just a filthy ****.
19 May 2012, 10:37 am
@>^..^< katman(katman)-20: oh my garsh you are so right. i must feel so sorry that these leeches who think they DESERVE to replace an established union arent in the comp. golly how thoughtless of me i should repent before its too late. bwahahahahahaha!!!!
19 May 2012, 10:39 am
@Blitzbok(Blitzbok)-22: If you can’t tell the difference between disagreeing with the Kings’ inclusion and spouting the most vile, racist drivel, then it’s probably you who is the sub-human.
19 May 2012, 10:41 am
@>^..^< katman(katman)-23: racist? racist is if you dont like a ethnic group. i just hate stupid arseholes. please take your race card and use it as a swipe card for your *** where it belongs bwahahaha!!! if its as good as the anc say it is maybe youll start pumping out hundred rand notes bwahahaa. catch a clue buddy and get real.

19 May 2012, 10:50 am
Resistance to change is painful but the Eastern Cape time has come. I personally believe that SA should have 6 teams in the competition. Heavens Game you really are not good at putting your point across without getting aggressive. SA rugby needs to change and this is one small step in the right direction.
19 May 2012, 10:50 am
@Blitzbok(Blitzbok)-26: You don’t have to be white to be a racist arsehole. You probably know this.
19 May 2012, 10:53 am
@>^..^< katman(katman)-28: racist? i have black friends who are not subhumans they are bright people. so no i not a racist at all you though are a stupid arrogant brainwashed mindless drone take your race card and do what i said i command you b!tch bwahahaah
19 May 2012, 10:55 am
@XV(XV)-27: The resistance is not to change. It’s to the disgusting way in which the politically connected exploit the culture of We Must Have It to force their snouts into the feeding trough. The Kings will have zero respect amongst the SA rugby public, regardless of their brave efforts on the field. The combination of the fiasco of the inclusion, the smug Cheeky Watson and the arrogant Luke Watson has sealed their fate, I’m afraid. Everyone will be praying that they get snotted week in and week out. Which they will.
19 May 2012, 10:55 am
@Blitzbok(Blitzbok)-29:
What’s this subhuman you blabbing about
19 May 2012, 11:02 am
@Dawn(Dawn)-31: a stupid *******. prettty simple stuffs explain it to kakman youll need lots of charts diagrams and maybe a seven week course. if he fails just pass him anyway thats how things are done anyways.
19 May 2012, 11:02 am
Sorry Kat I have not personally met the Watsons so I cannot comment about them. But it seems a lot of bloggers on this site have. Which I guess entitles them to having an informed opinion. I could mention that the Sharks had help in the past to enable them to move from the old sport Pienaar division to the currie cup division. And they have not looked back.
19 May 2012, 11:04 am
@XV(XV)-27: why does it need to change? why does anything haves to change? you boofhead you really are a stupid ****. these ***** holes have done nothing to do anything just moan and whine and cry until they get what they want.
19 May 2012, 11:17 am
Calm down blitz. Change is painful as we can tell from your inability to communicate on an educated level. Keep calm and carry on.
19 May 2012, 11:21 am
Eish, I go watch rugby in a mancave and come back and everyone is trying to kill each other. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
19 May 2012, 12:12 pm
@XV(XV)-35: to you change is getting another big fat handout because you are too stupid to educate yourself and do something with your life. you were probably born in a cabbage patch. now you call for a team of arsehole losers to be given something they havent earned just like you like it. go kill yourself and do humanity a favor.
19 May 2012, 12:21 pm
@Blitzbok(Blitzbok)-37: Blitz…if it an’t broke then do not fix it…..but its all broken…so change is needed. You make some great assumptions. Made me smile. Thank you. I must say that you seem a very erudite person. Go check up in the dictionary what that means.
19 May 2012, 12:40 pm
@XV(XV)-33:
Natal were winning the B league on a regular basis and knocking over teams from the A league, and in in some cases making it to the A league finals…that is what justified their move to the A league.
Hard graft and proof that they were up to the task….not politics like these poooftahs the Queens.
Gumede is an out and out racist with nefarious hidden agendas. He is clearly out to support the blecks in this new agenda.
19 May 2012, 12:50 pm
What do you call 15 okes sitting around a TV set in Port Elizabeth watching the Vodacom Cup semi-finals & final?
The Kings.
19 May 2012, 12:53 pm
@BrumbiesBoy(BrumbiesBoy)-40:
..again.
19 May 2012, 13:02 pm
@Great White Shark(Predawn)-39: I am not saying that the Sharks were not deserving. In the professional era it is very difficult for a team to get up to S15 standard unless they have S15 status. Its similar to The Champions league Football. Its all money driven. With S15 status The Kings can start building a team that can be competitive. So when comparing remember Natal got the hand out in the amateur era.
19 May 2012, 13:03 pm
@BrumbiesBoy(BrumbiesBoy)-40: PE isn’t that far with regards to technology. They don’t have TVs yet.
19 May 2012, 13:08 pm
@Dusky(Dusky)-43: It’s actually guite a nice place.
I spent a week there one day…
19 May 2012, 13:10 pm
@BrumbiesBoy(BrumbiesBoy)-44:
Lol!!!
19 May 2012, 13:32 pm
testing
19 May 2012, 13:34 pm
this is the old argument between two sides…
The WE MUST ALSO HAVE IT side against the WE MUST KEEP THEM OUT FROM HAVING WHAT WE HAVE side… funny lot these two sides..
19 May 2012, 14:12 pm
@XV(XV)-27: And you sir are an ostrich… Keep that farken braindead excuse for a brain container in the sand, lift that feathery rear end in the air and get Kings shagged… What the fck is wrong with being aggressive especially when people are half asleep to daylight robbery… Fark that you useful idiot
19 May 2012, 14:17 pm
@>^..^< katman(katman)-30: 100% the truth… I will be on my knees thanking the great architect if and when the Kings get snotklap after snotklap…
And if and when they do this will be proof that Karma, Grace and retribution actually do all exist in one…
I will be religiously wishing all manner of plagues and embarrassment for what they and SARU expediency stand for…
19 May 2012, 14:19 pm
@XV(XV)-33: WTF have the Sharks got to do with the KIngs in their present day guise of political expediency and excuse for development or “transformation”?
SweetFuckall. Thats what.
Not only are you naive, but you are an apologetic liar… Burn baby burn.
