Kearney beats Pienaar to Euro award

Ireland and Leinster fullback Rob Kearney was named European Player of the Year on Monday.

The 26-year-old received his award after Leinster powered to their third European Cup in four years last weekend. Kearney, who has 41 Test caps for Ireland and the British and Irish Lions, played a key part during the club’s campaign as he scored six tries and was a star feature in the backline.

Kearney has also helped Leinster reach the Pro12 final, which will be against the Ospreys on Sunday.

Kearney beat four other players to the prestigious accolade – Ulster scrumhalf Ruan Pienaar, Ulster flank Stephen Ferris, Leinster flyhalf Jonny Sexton and Toulon flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson.
