Wallabies lose O’Connor

James O’Connor has lost his battle to recover from injury in time for the Wallabies’ June internationals.

O’Connor suffered a lacerated liver in a match against the Waratahs in late April, but the Wallabies’ selectors had hoped he would be fit for selections for Tests against Scotland and Wales. However, O’Connor confirmed his unavailability on Twitter, saying: ‘Disappointing result-Liver healing very nicely jst [sic] going to run out of time…if only I had a couple more weeks up my sleeve.’

Australia’s other big injury concern, flyhalf Quade Cooper, made a solid return to action for the Reds at the weekend. He was substituted at half-time but the Reds confirmed that it was a pre-planned move in a bid to carefully manage his re-introduction.

    Big loss, but OZ – despite being weakest in the S15 – will be very good when they pool the best for the Tests…

    @NicG(NicG)-1: They will be low on confidence though.

    @Sasuke(Sasuke)-2:
    Why?
    They took SA apart in the RWC and won the 3 nations last year.
    Super rugby means zilch in tests.
    OZ will be confident

    Super rugby does not normally mirror onto test for aus. Maybe spread thin in super rugby but at wallaby level different story.
