Koen, De Villiers join Bok management

Louis Koen and Pieter de Villiers were officially added to the Springbok management on Thursday.

Their appointments were approved by Saru’s Exco (Executive Council), which means the duo will join the Boks at their training camp in Durban on Sunday. Former Bok flyhalf Koen will take over as the team’s kicking consultant, while former France prop De Villiers will be the scrum specialist.

Head coach Heyneke Meyer lauded the latest additions to his management.

‘They bring a wealth of knowledge in their specialist areas of kicking and scrumming, but also know and understand the rigours of Test rugby, having played at the highest level,’ said Meyer. ‘Collectively they have been involved in a number of World Cups and this kind of experience is something that will always be invaluable at Test level.’

I completely reverse my feelings for Coach P Divy!

    From his books launch:

“You ask the question, this is a multibillion-rand indus-try, are the right people managing it?”

De Villiers said the Kings, the controversial sixth team trying to force its way into the Super Rugby competition, was indicative of the broader malaise. Led by Watson, they are the descendants of the Spears that De Villiers had started with four players and no budget in 2004.

“Then they said we were costing them too much money, so they shut us down. Now we’ve got a franchise in a format that there is no room for, into which they are pumping millions.”

The Eastern Cape needs rugby to be developed, as 60 percent of all SA’s black players come from the region, but the Kings isn’t the answer, De Villiers said.

“If you want to introduce rugby, make every Super 15 team play a game there. If you want to develop talent, let it run its natural course, not by buying players from elsewhere. If they gave black players the chance, they would be the best they could be…

“We don’t have enough (quality) players to justify it. Instead of creating a vehicle to develop and keep the best black rugby players in the country, we’re making a team for the seventh, eighth and ninth best white players who don’t have anything left to give.”

The team’s inability to be competitive, he said, would make them a laughing stock.

Giving new Bok coach Meyer his full backing, he said: “The one thing we must do is support Heyneke… Our duty, every one of us, is just to support him.” – The Star

@houston, we have a problem…(i_love_u_bakkiesbotha)-45: the bulls are underdogs for this game, in NZ, last game on tour etc. If they play above themsleves they might pull off a win and it would be a famous one, so expect little but anticipate a lot

@The Analyst(The Analyst)-53: Did you hear Oregon’s excuses on the Cape Talk this morning
Question 1 : how are the Lions going to survive if they are relegated?
Oregon : survive? Ah ah well you know ah ah that this isn’t the first time a south African team has been relegated, Ah ah ah there will be processes put in place, we are still looking at other possible solutions..
Question 2 : Pieter de Villiers has said in his book that you were in negotiation with HM 6 months before the world Cup? Oregon : Well a news paper recently asked me the same question and I told them that I didn’t have a copy of the book yet. It’s difficult to comment on something you haven’t seen with your own eyes. It’s not easy at all..

Yes this week. Seems like we will hear the real story. But also seems like Divvy was an honourable guy with integrity. I think he was out of his depth as coach, but he looked after his players and had real integrity. A real rugby man. Saw through all the political bullshit, as well as Luke ‘the puke’ Watson, even though it seems like Watson’s father was the real reason behind destroying Luke.

The biggest problem with SA Rugby is there governance model. It is corrupt to the core. Fix that and you will see SA Rugby sore to unprecedented heights – for the good of ALL South Africans.

Unfortunately it is the problem with the WHOLE of SA, starting from the top of the ANC dictatorship.

And he is right about the Kings. The fat cats will get the gravy, but the local rugby men in Eastern Cape will STILL have nothing.

    Pieter de Villiers

one of the greatest lost talents in SA rugby.

powerful scrummager at his peak with no equal. One of the most destructive THs of the last 20 years.

Pieter de Villiers – ‘Yes’ – BIG TIME!!!!! (And to echo greatest13Gerber – yet another COLOSSAL mismanaged waste of talent, to go with Visage).

Louis Koen – you’ve got to be kldding me – he single-handledly lost us a House of Pain test match through his lack of big match temperament – missing several goalable penalties when it counted; and he choked in the World Cup against England – USELESS; he’s a loser, shouldn’t be anywhere near that side.

@J.B. Cowper(J.B. Cowper)-65: Those penalties you mentioned were all from 50 meters plus, out of his range.

He did lose us the WC game against England in Perth through shoddy decision making, though.
