Meyer granted extra opportunity
24 May 2012
Heyneke Meyer will hold a fourth and final planning camp in Durban from Sunday with 42 players invited to attend.
This will be the final opportunity for Meyer to work with the players before the final Springbok squad to face England meets on 3 June.
The camp will take place on 27 and 28 May. The players will depart Durban around midday on Monday and will be back with their Super Rugby franchises for training in the afternoon.
‘We discussed this with the franchise CEOs recently and they’ve been very accommodating, as they were earlier in the season,’ said Meyer.
‘We’ve planned it in Durban, because the Stormers take on the Sharks at Kings Park the day before and will be there already. Players from the Bulls, Lions and Cheetahs will fly in on Sunday morning.
‘This is by no means a final Springbok squad and the door will be open for all our eligible players until the announcement of the squad that will take on England.
‘This camp will put in place a number of the finer details in terms of what we want to achieve against England. We will hit the ground running on 3 June, when we converge in Durban for the first Test with a final squad.’
Meyer said that they will keep in touch with the Super Rugby franchises regarding injured players, but that they weren’t considered for this camp.
Players invited to the final Springbok Planning Camp in Durban on 27 and 28 May:
Forwards (22): Coenie Oosthuizen, Tendai Mtawarira, Dean Greyling, Jannie du Plessis, Pat Cilliers, Werner Kruger, Bismarck du Plessis, Adriaan Strauss, Chiliboy Ralepelle, Flip van der Merwe, Eben Etzebeth, Andries Bekker, Juandré Kruger, Marcell Coetzee, CJ Stander, Heinrich Brüssow, Keegan Daniel, Willem Alberts, Jean Deysel, Pierre Spies, Ryan Kankowski, Josh Strauss.

@Puma(Puma)-449:
Adri Geldenhuys in his debut year for NTvl was one of the SA players of year . A real lineout talent. A real enforcer.
24 May 2012, 15:34 pm
Katman
Was thinking exactly that.

The Artist @444.
Brilliant.

@Tacitus(Deucalion)-452: Sharks tried JP Petersen there for this very reason. Jury is still out on the success of this move. Taute played 13 at age group level, and has done so a few times for the Lions too. And a midfield of a (trim and fit) Francois Steyn alongside Taute is a mouthwatering prospect.
24 May 2012, 15:38 pm
I’ve heard Serfontein’s name a lot. Haven’t seen him play yet.
How big is he? Is he quick?
24 May 2012, 15:39 pm
@willievz(willievz)-426: Totally correct. Jordaan too not a big player, but he is top class. Great on defence and attack. ILambie too not the biggest, but not afraid to tackle any player, no matter the size and almost always gets his man. Size don’t always count.

@greatest13gerber(greatest13gerber)-457:
Piet used to play with a jersey with no sleeves whatsoever. Cut off at the shoulders.
The only player who I know not only moered Piet but his brother Andre in the SAME GAME off the field when playing for Griquas was a young thuggish hooker playing for Boland by the name of Dale Sandton…

@greatest13gerber(greatest13gerber)-442:
true.

Adolf,……………………………………………………………………You have got to kidding me.
I do hope this poor individual was born pre-1940.

@greatest13gerber(greatest13gerber)-457:
hehehe
put them on a field with a fair set of rules FOR BOTH SIDES and a bit of ‘leeway’ aka referees discrection with the best the kiwis got and watch a beautiful spectacle unfold…
24 May 2012, 15:46 pm
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-460: 19 years old, 1,87 mts tall and 97 kgs. Cant wait to see him at Junior World Cup.
24 May 2012, 15:47 pm
@Markel77(Markel77)-468: Too short for Tacitus

24 May 2012, 15:48 pm
@Markel77(Markel77)-468:
Sounds like a nice prospect. Got some pace?
24 May 2012, 15:49 pm
24 May 2012, 15:49 pm
@willievz(willievz)-469:
Nope. Andre Snyman was around 1,88 if I recall correctly.
The key for a 13 is size, strength and pace combined. The more pace the better.
24 May 2012, 15:53 pm
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-443:
They are all still bigger than Japie Mulder who won a WC weighing 77kgs.
Sadie is taller than Andre Snyman who you refer to as a big centre and is only 5kgs lighter at 95kgs.
24 May 2012, 15:54 pm
@willievz(willievz)-474:
Are you smoking something?
Japie weighed 95kgs at that World Cup.
24 May 2012, 15:54 pm
Japie Mulder…77kg’s…..Hehehe..
24 May 2012, 15:55 pm
@willievz(willievz)-474:
that cant be right?
24 May 2012, 15:56 pm
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-471: 12 or 13.
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-473: JdJ has enough pace and strength. He just lacks in the size.
24 May 2012, 15:56 pm
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-471 Acording some rugby365 bloggers hes quite quite quick. We will see next month
24 May 2012, 15:57 pm
@Sasuke(Sasuke)-478:
Agreed. But he lacks majorly in that department. He ain’t ever going to dominate a Stirling Mortlock sized 100kg, hard running centre in midfield.
24 May 2012, 15:59 pm
@Tacitus(Deucalion)-475:
If he did weigh 95kgs he must have bulked down in 2001, during a time period most players were bulking up:

On another note, I see that Affies wing Andries van der Merwe is also the 2011 World Championship Gold Medalist in the junior 110m hurdles, with a time of 13.41.
Now that’s damn quick.
Let’s hope he sticks to rugby.

Indeed Katters.
The problem is that Frankie Steyn’s mouth has been watering rather too much in Painauchocolatland.
He’s getting married (suprisingly not to Ruan Pienaar) in June. Let’s hope he’s been watching his figure for that at least.
24 May 2012, 16:09 pm

7 – Willem Alberts
8 – Pierre Spies
9 – Francois Hougaard
10 – Pat Lambie
11 – Gio Aplon
12 – Jean de Villiers

17 – Coenie Oosthuizen
18 – Juandré Kruger
19 – Marcell Coetzee
20 – Jano Vermaak
21 – Morné Steyn
