Quins crowned English champs

Harlequins beat Leicester 30-23 on Saturday to win the Premiership title.

Harlequins controlled the game for large periods, and were more clinical when presented with an opportunity. Leicester were at their most dangerous in the second quarter and led 13-11, that was until No 8 Thomas Waldrom was sin-binned fro cynical play.

Harlequins scored nine points in Waldrom’s absence, the accurate boot of All Blacks flyhalf Nick Evans captialising on every kickable opportunity. England captain Chris Robshaw scored an important try in the 57th minute and the conversion by Evans took Harlequins to a commanding 27-13 lead. Another three-pointer all but secured the result.

The Tigers hit back strongly with a converted try, and a further penalty by George Ford put them within sight of levelling the scores. Ultimately they left themselves with too much to do in the final quarter, and Harlequins held out for a deserved victory.
