Double blow for Wallabies

Double blow for Wallabies

Wallabies captain James Horwill and Kurtley Beale have been left out of the squad for the June Tests because of injuries.

Horwill sustained a hamstring injury in Saturday’s match between the Reds and Brumbies. He will undergo further scans but is expected to miss the the Tests against Scotland and Wales, which means a new skipper will need to be named.

Scrumhalf Will Genia and openside flanker David Pocock have been mentioned as candidates. Rocky Elsom, who has led the side before, has been left out of the squad completely.

Flyhalf Quade Cooper has been included in the squad. His return is timely considering the injury to James O’Connor (liver). Beale injured his shoulder in Saturday’s game between the Rebels and Hurricanes and will require surgery.

Wallabies squad – Ben Alexander, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Berrick Barnes, Quade Cooper, Dave Dennis, Kane Douglas, Anthony Faingaa, Saia Faingaa, Bernard Foley, Will Genia, Michael Harris, Scott Higginbotham, Michael Hooper, Rob Horne, Digby Ioane, Sekope Kepu, Salesi Ma’afu, Pat McCabe, Ben McCalman, Jesse Mogg, Stephen Moore, Luke Morahan, Cadeyrn Neville, Dan Palmer, Wycliffe Palu, Nick Phipps, David Pocock, Tatafu Polata Nau, Hugh Pyle, Benn Robinson, Nathan Sharpe, Dominic Shipperley, Rob Simmons, James Slipper, Sitaleki Timani, Joseph Tomane, Cooper Vuna, Nic White.

    They are their for the taking. Losing their inspirational captain and their only fit flyhalf are big blows. Cooper to be rushed into flyhalf berth? He doesnt look match sharp yet.

    Is everyones brains as thick as nails? MAYBE they should play berrick barnes who IMO should of been flyhalf anyway?

    Beale is a massive loss. He’s closing in on his career best form. With good coaching & clever tactics, I expect the wallabies to overcome their obvious lack of player depth

    @Butthead(Bradenel)-3: True. Barnes has been great so far in Superugby.

    Only one real shock here and that is the huge Caderyn Neville… from Olympic rower to Wallaby in 3 Super caps…

    Palmer, Mogg, Timane, White, Hooper can all thank none other than JAke White for both their Brumbies and now Wallabies caps… the man is a magician!

    Outside of them (and perhaps Vuna) and the injuries there are no real surprises here at all… they have all been capped for either the Wallabies or Australian A…

    Although Elsom must be fuming he’s lost his $400k contract…

    bryce_in_oz – Agree. White is really showing what a great coach he is. The Brumbies are playing awesome rugby. New players are playing like seasoned players, incredible!!

    Only SARU could let a man of his calibre go, and Mallet!

    I still think Wales will battle against this squad. Berrick Banres is playing rahter well these days. Strong Wallabie pack!

  • 13.fantasyrugbyscout: Reply to this comment

    Spare a thought for the Rebels, Cipriani sent packing, O’Connor out and now Beale. Just when they were looking like they could end their season strongly…

    Caderyn Neville is a prop out of left field for Australian Rugby. Hope he gets a NPC contract to further his development. Built like you know what brick house, in same build as Hurricanes behemoth Ben May and Carl Hayman, throw in The Bulls pair as well. Have not seen a prop for the Wallabies in this kind of shape since Richard Harry.

    Beale is a massive loss, but Luke Morahan has X factor, was starting to think he maybe another Peter Hewatt, great skills but will never be selected for some reason.

    @mshiniwami(mshiniwami)-15: Agree with forward pack, but would have Morahan at 15 with AAC at centre.

    And I too wonder how Salesi pedestrian all game long Maafu, makes the squad?! Must have pics of Deans of you low what I mean?!

    @mshiniwami(mshiniwami)-15:

    You need to learn the Wallaby pecking order at TH numnuts!

    Ben Alexander has missed just 1 from 18 tests the last few seasons… Ma’afu and Palmer are the other two out-right TH’s and Slipper and Kepu both the bench-options due to their ability to play both sides…

    @CSI:Rugby(CSI:Rugby)-16:

    Caderyn is the Rebels’ lock…

    @bryce_in_oz(bryce_in_oz)-18:

    Kepu been playing good rugby before getting injured. Alexander been average. Anyway he still isnt the”rock of gilbraltar” at TH anyway neither of them. World se gat as you claim.

    Where are all those Tall Timber you were talking about? they done f&ckall as predicted.You like talkin out the side of your neck. You use the term “world class” too liberally especially in reference to your prop stocks especially if Salesi Maafu is a Test option

    @mshiniwami(mshiniwami)-19:

    Average? You’re are having a laugh… Brumbies front-row have been dynamite this season with Ben at LH and powering away in the loose and tackle-zone!

    Stick to Bok or Sharks threads…

    @bryce_in_oz(bryce_in_oz)-20:

    Forward pack has been better than yesteryr yet they failed to impose themselves on average Reds pack with their “dynamite-ness”. Alexander didnt dominate Slipper none nor did Brumbies establish physical edge.It was an arm wrestle which suited Brumbies yet they lost.

    Hahaha i still ask you about your so called vaunted tall timber talent and still no answer.Pathetic as usual.

    Your prop arent world class.Period. Stop using that phrase too literally.

    @mshiniwami(mshiniwami)-19: tl tl tl Salesi Ma’afu, “world class”? :lol:

  • 26.bryce_in_oz: Reply to this comment

    @mshiniwami(mshiniwami)-24:

    What’s there to argue little man… you still peeing your pants… months out I predicted EXACTLY who would be the Wallabies locks including the athletic Pyle and told you their pecking order and stated they were all tall-timber over 2metres… well only one missing was the bolter 2.02m 120kgs Rebels juggernaught who scored 3 tries in 3 games in Neville!

    Brumbies have smashed a fair few scrums this year in their superb showing… not owning the Reds only re-iterates the FACT that Australia have far more depth at tight-head than the Boks…

    JDP (to a lesser degree), Nel, Kruger… all average…

    @Transformation(Transformation)-25:

    Yep you know more than the Wallabies (world number two’s)… Ma’afu and co destroyed the Welsh pack in the RWC and in their own words is the strongest scrumager in the land…

    Run along lap-dogs…

    @bryce_in_oz(bryce_in_oz)-26: are you seriously arguing that salesi is “world class”? :lol:

    @bryce_in_oz(bryce_in_oz)-26: was is not the same salesi who got the s.hit shoved out of him by the poms in Australia – he got yellowcarded for repeated infringement?

    you’re funny bryce ;)

    Cadeyrn who?

  • 30.mshiniwami: Reply to this comment

    @bryce_in_oz(bryce_in_oz)-26:

    Your locks are sh*t period.Only Horwill is world class. Where is Hugh Douglas? Dean Mumm? Radike Samo-who you paraded on here as a viable Test lock? Hahaha you’re pathetic. Nathan Sharpe still the best lock in Oz,that says a lot for your so called “lock stock talent”. Hugh Pyle is average,Neville is a nobody-120kgs blah blah who gives a toss-Sitileki Timani is also 120kgs plus and was “next big thing” last year and he got his a s s handed to him last yr by Samoans-a retread flank in Kane Thompson.

    Hahaha yeah right about Reds who had Holmes @ loosehead & Slipper at TH and have been getting carrots from last 12 weeks in superrugby. Brumbies did jacksh*t against them.AND LOST…Pathetic..Same Reds pack with Wallaby tight 5 that got smashed by Sharks all willy nilly at KingsPark.

    Next thing your gona tell me Pek Cowan is worldclass & Adam Wallace Harrison is also Test standard…bwahahahaha

    @mshiniwami(mshiniwami)-30:

    You rant and you have veered from the entire truth.

    Whlst the reds have wallaby players in the scrum they are not the wallaby tight five. James slipper and hansen have not played 12 games of super rugby this year…they might lucky to have strung twelve games between them. For the first 7 weeks of the super campaign the reds were missing their 12 first choice players. Bring on the sharks again!!

    Aussie are entitled to a dire game…even if it is once in a blue moon! Saffa sides dish it up all the time and their supporters have puked up the fibs thats what they see ….is a good game to the extent they begin to believe themselves.
