Steyn back in the Tank
28 May 2012
Frans Steyn has signed a three-year contract with the Sharks.
The Springbok back left the Sharks in 2009 to join Racing Metro on a two-and-a-half year deal and won 61 caps for the French club. Steyn recently expressed his desire to return to South Africa and the Sharks were always likely to get his signature.
Steyn will officially join the union on 1 July, but an IRB ruling stipulating that any player registered after 1 April is ineligible for the play-offs means that Steyn would watch from the stands should the Sharks progress to that stage of the tournament.
‘It is great to have him back with us as we did miss him,’ said Sharks coach John Plumtree. ‘He was definitely an influential player when he left and he will again be that, so it is fantastic to have him with the Sharks.’
Steyn has played 47 Tests for the Springboks and is expected to wear the No 12 jersey in the three-Test series against England in June.

Fransie Dragons!!!
28 May 2012, 18:47 pm
Now, sell Bosman, Joubert and Ludik on a package deal to Ulster and get Pienaar back
Nice!!!
28 May 2012, 18:48 pm
Welcome back to the Sharks Fransie.
28 May 2012, 18:50 pm
I could now say with confidence that Sharks now have the best centres in our conference.
Jordaan, Fransie, Tim, and Bosman. Bosman has improved huge this year, he is playing so much better than last year.
Can’t wait to see Fransie team up with Jordaan or even Tim.

Great signing for the Sharks.Sharks must now be the bookies favourites to win the CC.
28 May 2012, 18:56 pm

Oh yesssssssssssssss! Thank the Lord almighty that this overweight, overrated behemoth has signed for the Guppies, where he can die a quick and natural death. Watching him bumble his way through the Top 14 in France is nothing short of embarrassing, especially in light of his god like status on this site.
28 May 2012, 19:02 pm
Great signing for the Stormers too as Whitehead will not be a happy chappy and most likely be very keen to move back to CT instead of gathering splinters on KP bench.
28 May 2012, 19:02 pm
Welcome back Fransie!!! Great to have you at the Sharks!

@Pee Wee(Pee Wee)-8:
I really miss Ricky januarie right about now.
28 May 2012, 19:08 pm
11 @ Agile
You can find him at the local McD’s, no wait KFC, errrrrrrr Chicken Licken…………….can’t really say but you won’t miss him!
28 May 2012, 19:10 pm
Good business. Dont think he’ll be used in this years super rugby though. SANZAR rules prevent him from qualifying for the playoffs. He’ll probably need a break as well after coming off a long top 14 season
28 May 2012, 19:11 pm
Good news for Sharks.
Pee Wee, jealous much?
28 May 2012, 19:11 pm
He will surely miss all those great boulangeries in Paris,but hey there is always the curry dens of Durbs to keep him nice and full.
28 May 2012, 19:11 pm
@Pee Wee(Pee Wee)-12:
I’m sure after retirement, inactivity and his eating/drinking habits by now he is big enough to be in all of the above simultaneously….so, you’re guess is good. :\

14 @ Mr. Black
No, not in the farking least, now at least my theory that Fransie is useless can be witnessed by all…………… in his home country! Amazing news!
Just keep him away from the take aways and get him to a barber. The poor boy needs to be sheared!
28 May 2012, 19:22 pm
@stormerforlife1(stormerforlife1)-15: In defense of Steyn though,some of the worlds best breads and cakes you will find in those bakeries.
28 May 2012, 19:24 pm
@Pee Wee(Pee Wee)-18: Steyn might not have been incredible for Racing Metro but he’s a pretty damn good player for the Boks and has been a part of all our finest moments over the last 5 years. He was arguably the form 12 at the RWC before being injured and his injury hurt us more than his critics would like to admit. Steyn is far, far better than ANY of our other centres now than Fourie is inactive.
28 May 2012, 19:25 pm
He does need to lose a couple KG’s though.
28 May 2012, 19:27 pm
@Pee Wee(Pee Wee)-18: I watched him in the top14 play-off game this past Saturday and he was woeful to say the least.Attempted a few drops from the halfway line as well.Last time he got booed at the tank for doing just that….so interesting times ahead for Fransie and Shark fans alike.
28 May 2012, 19:28 pm
The Sharks seem to be the favourite last outpost for overweight rugby players.
Ollie le Roux, John Smit, France Steyn……….
And don’t forget they also fought hard for the signature of Ricky January who then unfortunately decided to come to CT.

@SpiesIsWorthless(SpiesIsWorthless)-21:
Didn’t somebody mention a honeymoon for Steyn?
Quite a calorie-burner
28 May 2012, 19:30 pm
@Robzim(Robzim)-23:
And also for wannabe rock stars.
Kabous van der westhuizen, Ross Skeate and France Steyn (yet again).
28 May 2012, 19:30 pm
@Agile T*t-Tyrant(Anairetes agilis)-24: There we go. Perfect
28 May 2012, 19:31 pm
Seems all of Meyers overseas players will be down in SA for the June international
Steyn-Check
Du Preez-Check
Ruan-Check
Any one left out???
Seems a lot of players are showing commitment & respect towards Meyer.

20 @ SpiesIsWorthless
He played against mediocre opposition in the WC. He’s been pathetic against the Ozzies and NZ when he’s played them. Now that’s he’s back he will be judged accordingly!
28 May 2012, 19:39 pm
There aren’t exactly a host of world class centres that he’ll be keeping out of the team though. Him and De Villiers are as good as it gets for now against the likes of Oz and NZ. I guess De Jongh will be thereabouts too.

I cringe when I see him play over there. Apart from being substituted every game his defence is quite leaky too. He is a substitutes dream – if you’re on the bench as a back you’re always sure to come on for Steyn at some stage!
28 May 2012, 19:46 pm
GRREAT news!
28 May 2012, 19:47 pm
@SpiesIsWorthless(SpiesIsWorthless)-29:
JDJ may not get a spot at all
JDV and Steyn at centers
if he picks Pienaar (on bench)there is no place for JdJ on bench unless you leave out Aplon
Pienaar can cover 9,10 and 15
lambie can cover center
28 May 2012, 19:49 pm
and i feel sorry for Hougaard he should start at 9
HM has to use Mvovo , basson or maybe habana at 11
So Hougaard is on the bench covering 9 and wings
28 May 2012, 19:50 pm
@SpiesIsWorthless(SpiesIsWorthless)-29:
I love the nick by the way
28 May 2012, 19:50 pm
Great news for Bulls and Stormers fans.
28 May 2012, 19:53 pm
WB Steyn Cant play for sharks in super15 but can for the boks
28 May 2012, 19:55 pm
@CoachPete(CoachPete)-34: We need an experience captain hence Fdp.Bad luck for Hougie but we need to trust Heineken as the bulls fans would urge all and sundry.
28 May 2012, 19:57 pm
@stormerforlife1(stormerforlife1)-38:
Sorry Fellow stormer I would have Hougaard as my 9 and Jdv as capt
Playing FDP is a step back in time
japanese rugby is nothing like test rugby
yes I know he is experienced but but
28 May 2012, 19:58 pm
@CoachPete(CoachPete)-35: Thank you sir.
28 May 2012, 20:01 pm
@SpiesIsWorthless(SpiesIsWorthless)-40:
YW, and dont get me started on Spies
28 May 2012, 20:02 pm
@CoachPete(CoachPete)-39: I know but I seriously don’t want to upset my Bulls buddies on here who believes Meyer walks on water.
28 May 2012, 20:03 pm
Even Australia are in an era of pretty mediocre centres, we dont have much coming through behind the pedigree and experience of De Villiers and Steyn, but Adam Ashley Cooper is looking increasingly poor in Super Rugby, Barnes too. There just isn’t the threat we’ve come to expect from Wallaby centres. They’re bound to start Mortlock lite McCabe and lord knows who at 13.
Conversely, the NZ Super Rugby teams and the All Blacks remain extremely strong at centre.
28 May 2012, 20:03 pm
@SpiesIsWorthless(SpiesIsWorthless)-40:
I would not even have him in my 22 but HM will
28 May 2012, 20:05 pm
@stormerforlife1(stormerforlife1)-42:
I hear you, but we are selecting a Cheetah at 6
Plus stander is a future start and he is a Bull
28 May 2012, 20:05 pm
sorry “star”
28 May 2012, 20:08 pm
Welcome back Fransie. I hope you put a clause in your contract that you will play at 12 and only 12. We need someone to replace the donkey JDV.
As for Whitehead …. Hahahahahaha gather them splinterd bud. Venter is the next best after our Fransie.
28 May 2012, 20:08 pm
@ 25
Hehehe,gud stuff
28 May 2012, 20:10 pm
@CoachPete(CoachPete)-45: Bulls fans might be ,but I don’t believe Heyneke is thaaat stupid to ignore the pocket dynamo at 6.
28 May 2012, 20:10 pm
@RL(RL)-47:
