PdV book a ‘self-serving hack job’

Cheeky Watson and Cedric Frolick have slammed Peter de Villiers for telling ‘an untrue little tale’ in his recently released autobiography.

In Politically Incorrect, which was co-written by Gavin Rich, the former Springbok coach accuses Frolick, who served as deputy chairman of Parliament’s portfolio committee on sport, of trying to have him sacked as Bok coach, and says Frolick and EPRFU president Cheeky Watson may have been behind the sex tape scandal that made headlines in 2008.

Frolick and Watson released a joint statement denying the allegations.

‘[They] are made on the basis of what he was purportedly told by an individual [former Springbok media man Chris Hewitt] who is no longer available to confirm or deny these contentions [Hewitt was killed in a plane crash in October 2008 soon after leaving Saru] and are not surprisingly unsupported by any solid or corroboratory evidence. If it is true that this theory was in fact promoted to him, it is repeated uncritically and without regard to the motives of the promoter.

‘In the event, the allegations regarding us are not only devoid of truth but are highly defamatory. Our rights to pursue the appropriate legal action against De Villiers and his publishers are reserved.

‘It is unfortunate indeed that De Villiers has seen fit to stoop to the mechanism of concocting this scurrilous and untrue little tale in order to engender cheap publicity for what at first blush appears to be a turgid and self-serving hack job designed to exploit what little interest may remain in him amongst the public in South Africa.’

    Views of the Protagonists:

About the allegations against him, specifically De Villiers’ publicly blaming him for possibly trying to sabotage his career with the alleged existence of a “*** tape”, Frolick said: “I’ve referred it to an advocate. But I don’t necessarily want to waste time and money on something that is a non-event. Those who are foolish enough to buy (the book) will be disappointed. It is nothing more than a litany of excuses as to why he failed to win the World Cup.”

Contacted for his response, Cheeky Watson, who heads up Eastern Cape rugby, said: “Shame, I actually feel sorry for him – the lengths he has to stoop to … for the selling of a book.”

Approached yesterday, Hoskins said: “Rugby is too precious a national asset for me to respond to him.”

So, no disputing what could be the truth from Dippy the Underdog Black ex Bok Coach?

    Hmmm, very interesting…

No one ever understood what PDivvy was saying most of the time. Maybe just maybe he got the message wrong…

@Bill Reyts(Gumboots)-155: If he was allowed to speak Afrikaans to the media he would have expressed himself better.

Why can the French coach speak French to the media, but the Bok coach cannot speak to the media in his mothertongue?

I have heard him speak Afrikaans as well. Didn’t really understand him too well either…

@willievz(willievz)-156: He was “interesting” in both languages. Switching to Afrikaans didn’t suddenly make him insightful.

Bit sad really. Whilst I haven’t read the book (and probably won’t) I thought there would be more loyalty between this lot.
PdV wanted the Bok job and needed Fikile and Cheeky’s support.
Cheeky wanted Luke in the national team and a chance to throw 2 fingers up at the traditional (Afrikaner) rugby establishment.
Fikile wanted a non-White dude running the show to support transformation

Just goes to show don’t make deals with your friends friend or your enemy’s enemy….

@Train(Train)-159: fikile was in the ANC yoof leeg in 2008 or perhaps in the bush as tony yengeni decided to circumcise him at the tender age 32

@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-161: hehehe the last time there was a commission on enquiry into SARU Nelson Mandela ended up in court as Louis Luyt said Mandela “never applied his mind” (read to stupid) when approving the inquiry and that SARU is a “private institution” not accountable to government. :D

no, but to be fair he does state things a lot more sensibly and easy to understand when doing so in afrikaans. not the most articulate person in either language but certainly more so in afikaans than in english.

Peetered duh Silliers is nothing more than your average whinging Yappie with pockets full of ready made excuses to explain away the inevitable whuppings his over-hyped over-rated team of numpties would be subjected to on a regular basis and divert all attention away from how sh*t he and his team were.

Has there EVER been a ‘coach’ that was more disrespectful to the ethos of the game ? Arrogant knut of an arrogant nation, they truly deserved each other.

  • 169.PrickBoks going South: Reply to this comment

I wonder if the chapter where duh Silliers blames Lawrence for the PrickBoks RWC loss also includes reference to acknowledging Lawrence being integral to the PrickBoks beating the B.I.Lions ? In fact, most say that but-for Lawrence, the Lions would have won handsomely, they were after all the much stronger team.

My guess is that the dimwitted ‘coach’ takes all the credit for that one himself.
