Bulls axe Sadie

Bulls axe Sadie

The Bulls have made two changes for their match against the Stormers at Loftus on Saturday.

Johann Sadie has been dropped from the match 22 with JJ Engelbrecht given the No 13 jersey, while Juandre Kruger replaces Wilhelm Steenkamp in the second row.

Sadie has struggled to replicate the form that he produced for the Stormers and WP last season, although he has been carrying an injury at times. His defence in particular has been a liability and coach Frans Ludeke has gone for the safer option in Engelbrecht, who has impressed in the midfield since moving from wing.

Flank Jacques Potgieter has been given another week to recover from his knee injury.

Bulls – 15 Zane Kirchner, 14 Akona Ndungane, 13 JJ Engelbrecht, 12 Wynand Olivier, 11 Bjorn Basson, 10 Morne Steyn, 9 Francois Hougaard, 8 Pierre Spies (c), 7 CJ Stander, 6 Dewald Potgieter, 5 Juandre Kruger, 4 Flip van der Merwe, 3 Werner Kruger, 2 Chiliboy Ralepelle, 1 Dean Greyling.
Subs: 16 Willie Wepener, 17 Rayno Gerber, 18 Wilhelm Steenkamp, 19 Arno Botha, 20 Jano Vermaak, 21 Louis Fouche, 22 Francois Venter.

That is what happens when a talent leaves the Cape. Silly boy…

Never nice to see someone come up short but a bit of poetic justice after bad mouthing the WPRU.

But for the Boks’ sake let’s hope he finds his feet soon and develop into the player he was touted to be.

Sadie out JJ in! Either way the Stormers are going to exploit this week midfield combo. This is where the game will be won.

@Bill Reyts(Gumboots)-17: Sadie’s talent is in attack. Since neither Stormers or the Bulls attack with their backs(at present) expect nothing from a player like Sadie.Aplon and Basson possibly the exceptions to this rule.

Didn’t I read somewhere recently that Heyneke rates JJ? Could this be a little word in his old buddy’s (Ludeke) ear?

    @optiplay(optiplay)-19:

True! Basson good out of the air. Will be suited to the Bok style in future I guess.

He rated Sadie as well until the bench press gym session

  • 23.TooMuchRugby: Reply to this comment

Just a thought. Who else sees a direct relation between Sadie’s bad form and him spending too much time in the gym to bulk up and not developing the smooth running skills he was renowned for?

JJ and Wynand: JDV and JDJ should really try and exploit this weak combo.

Do you remember all the typical WP fanfare hysterics from the likes of Gwantie and a few when Rassie said he simply could not warrant matching the amount of money the Bulls were offering for Sadie… oh Rassie this… Rassie that… pffff!

That said I hope the young lad gets some confidence back… he just hasn’t been the same since returning from injury… I’m surprised JJ wasn’t used more even if replacing Ndungane, who still finishes well, has all the positional experience one should have after being afforded half a decade with the Boks… but is now just too slow to be used as Hougie was as a strike-runner all over the paddock… something the Bulls are lacking heading into this second half of the comp…

Big difference between Bulls and Stormers:

We import players aged 22. Even if Sadie has 2 sh*t seasons, he can still become a good player.

The Stormers get over the hill hasbeens, who can only go one way, and that’s down. And yet they expect a permium salary package for “deeds done in their illustrious past.”

  • 31.willievz: Reply to this comment

I can give a rugby reason for why Sadie is struggling.

He is struggling next to WO, a midfielder who likes to attack the advantage line on his opponent’s outside shoulder. Hence WO prefers a 13 playing with him that supports him by cutting inside him on occasion and stand wider on first phase.

This is also why Engelbrecht, a wing, looks good next to WO, because wings are more used to cut inside players on their inside.

The approach at WP is different, as the 12s are far straighter in their running lines on offense.

In fact, Sadie has looked OK next to Francois Venter.

    @TooMuchRugby(TooMuchRugby)-23: Could be.

I don’t know if he is on the Klippies & Coke diet in Hatfield?

  • 33.>^..^< katman: Reply to this comment

@Tacitus(Deucalion)-30: No, that’s a difference. But the BIG difference is that the Stormers no longer call coaches, reporters and fans Oom and Tannie.

Also, how old was Wickus when you guys took him off our hands?

Brenden Nel says the explanation he got from Ludeke is that Sadie was not dropped but had a hamstring injury.

    but he will be back…

    fitter, stronger, smarter…

Forget the useless Sadie, Akona Ndungane undoubtly the biggest liability in this Bulls side. He gifted 2 tries to the Chiefs last week handing the match to the Kiwi powerhouse on a silver platter. Get rid of Akona and you know things will improve.

  • 40.viewer: Reply to this comment

Unlucky Sadie. I think being subbed so early @ loftus vs the ‘saders (when he’d not put a foot wrong) rocked his confidence

  • 41.Hondo: Reply to this comment

And Ndungane is rewarded for winning it for the Chiefs, so nice

Stormers will fck these okes up Saturday.. who wanna take any bets?

and just consider this.. say Lions give the overrated guppies a what for in Jozies..

oh wouldn’t it be nice to wake up on a Sunday

  • 43.louis schropnel: Reply to this comment

From out the 2 squads this would be my Bok team excluding other franchises

    Aplon
    Engelbrecht
    De Villiers (c)
    De Jongh
    Basson
    Steyn
    Hougaard
    Stander
    Elstadt
    Kolisi
    Kruger
    Etsebeth
    Malherbe
    Chili
    Greyling

    7 Bulls – 8 Stormers

Anyone thinking Stormers gonna get annihilated here better start praying like they do up there in Tswane town where they think rugby is won or lost be the vehemence of your attestations to some apparition in the sky..

Pray all you like.. Stormers coming home with a win here and that could bode kinda awkward for the other 2 franchise aiming for a play off.

Be quite interesting to see if Sharks can reproduce their lucky packet 3 tries from nothing vs Lions this weekend.. just imagine they slip on their own banana piel in Jo’burg?

  • 44.louis schropnel: Reply to this comment

    Reserves would go

Carstens, Fourie, Steenkamp, Louw, Duvenhage, Venter, Fouche
