Brumbies grind out ugly win
1 Jun 2012
JON CARDINELLI reports on the Brumbies’ 27-19 victory over the Rebels on Friday.
This result sees the Brumbies consolidating their position at the top of the Australian conference. The four points would have been the objective in a clash before the break, but coach Jake White should be concerned with the quality of the performance against the Rebels.
The Brumbies were deserved if not comfortable winners. They had several chances to take this match away from the Rebels, but too often conceded points immediately after they had scored at the other end.
After 24 minutes, the scoreline was 14-3 in the Brumbies’ favour. The Rebels had just lost prop Jono Owen to a yellow card and the Brumbies had eventually penetrated the visitors’ defence. Following Andrew Smith’s try, however, a determined pack of Rebels forwards began to earn some reward for their physicality at the collisions.
Julian Huxley kicked three more penalties to leave the hosts trailing by just 14-12 at half-time. The Rebels were unlucky not to score before the break when James Hilgendorf danced through a gap and flew towards the tryline. Only some desperate scrambling defence by Brumbies centre Pat McCabe denied the Rebels a try.
Flyhalf Zack Holmes kicked a penalty after half-time, and following a sustained period on attack the Brumbies eventually crossed the tryline. It was at this point that the Brumbies enjoyed a 12-point lead, but the result was far from secure.
Cooper Vuna scored for the Rebels immediately after the restart and Huxley’s fantastic conversion brought the hosts back to within five points. The Brumbies’ defence had been found wanting once again.
Holmes goaled an important penalty in the 73rd minute to give the Brumbies an eight-point buffer, but almost on cue, the visitors’ allowed the Rebels to hit back.
Fortunately for the Brumbies, the Rebels turned down a kickable penalty and lost possession after a multiphase attack came to nought. The clock was on the visitors’ side as the Rebels continued to lose ball in contact and botch set-piece opportunities.

Its all good.
I am happy with what i have got.
I know about the housing in NZ, you seem to be a bit of target.
I bought these houses about 15 years ago. Two are already paid of, just the one here in Christchurch which isnt.
But housing in Christchurch, believe it or not is wanted as people are looking to buy due to so many houses that are getting knocked down.
Believe me, you havnt a clue on NZ housing.

@Fern is not a stud,he is merely no19(Fern)-59: True. When he talks about shifting some properties, he’s not necessarily talking about selling them.
Similarly, when he offers to hook you up with a property, you’re better off with a towbar than a mortgage.

@Hurricane(Hurricane)-66: haha

Fern, i paid 200k and 245k for both houses.
GV now for both those houses now are 285k and 335k.
Christchurch house i bought for 325k 7 years ago.
I still have mortgage on this house.
And yes houses are dear here for the wages you get paid, thats a fact.
But in the right job, housing is not dear, just depends on your situation at the time.

House values move around alot, especially here in NZ.
Dont know what its like SA.
But remember, that the money i paid for those 2 houses, wasnt money i earned at all.
Its like it was money just given to me.
So really, even if both houses drop to what i bought them for, its still money i never earned.
I live here in Christchurch now Fern, Christchurch is my home. Those places in wellington are really just extra income.
1 Jun 2012, 13:34 pm
Very true, you got those homes for “free”.

1 Jun 2012, 13:37 pm
@Hurricane(Hurricane)-78: It’s not just the house values that move around a lot in NZ. The actual houses do too.
1 Jun 2012, 13:42 pm
@>^..^< katman(katman)-82: That’s true. They carry them around on large trucks or float them across the harbor.
1 Jun 2012, 13:43 pm
@>^..^< katman(katman)-82:
You do realise i live in Christchurch. And yes the houses move around here more than anywhere else in NZ.
In fact in our street 3 houses have been knocked down.
Whats sad is a little old lady goes to her yard, with no house and looks after her roses and garden thats still there. Really odd looking into a section with no house, but paths leading to where it was and a beautiful gardens around the yard.
1 Jun 2012, 13:44 pm
correct on your dad part
the house market here is picking up again slowly
ireland has over 300 ghost estates, this is where a developer started building but stopped cause the money dried up.
