Luke McAlister kicked 18 points as Toulouse beat Castres 24-15 in the Top 14 semi-final.
McAlister’s six penalties, including two from inside his half, was the bedrock upon which Toulouse’s success was built. With neither side able to break down the other’s defence, Toulouse exhibited superior composure to progress to the final. Lionel Beauxis added another six points with the boot, including a drop goal.
The win is also notable given that Toulouse were reduced to 13 men just before half-time, Florian Fritz being shown a yellow card for a high tackle in the 32nd minute, while Timoci Matanavou was sent to the bin five minutes later for cynical offside.
They will face the winner of the second semi-final between Clermont and Toulon, which takes place on Sunday.
