Williams to play Roberts’ role

New Wales No 12 Scott Williams is expected to play the same hard-running game as Jamie Roberts when the Dragons take on Australia in Brisbane.

Roberts is not on tour with Wales having been ruled out for six months with a knee injury. Williams will partner Jonathan Davies in midfield this Saturday.

Captain Sam Warburton has fully recovered from a shoulder injury and is sure to make an impact at the breakdown. He is joined by Toby Faletau and Dan Lydiate in the back row. That combination caused many teams, including South Africa, plenty of problems at last year’s World Cup.

Wales have not beaten the Wallabies in Australia since 1969, but will draw confidence from Scotland’s recent win in Newcastle. Scotland beat Australia 9-6 on Tuesday to end a 30-year drought on Australian soil.

Wales – 15 Leigh Halfpenny, 14 Alex Cuthbert, 13 Jonathan Davies, 12 Scott Williams, 11 George North, 10 Rhys Priestland, 9 Mike Phillips; 8 Toby Faletau, 7 Sam Warburton (c), 6 Dan Lydiate, 5 Luke Charteris, 4 Bradley Davies, 3 Adam Jones, 2 Ken Owens, 1 Gethin Jenkins.
Subs: 16 Matthew Rees, 17 Paul James, 18 Alun Wyn Jones, 19 Ryan Jones, 20 Lloyd Williams, 21 James Hook, 22 Ashley Beck.

Good looking team. Wales can make history here by winning a game even a series in Oz. I will definitely be backing the taffies!!

Scott Williams looked good in the WC. Not the biggest centre in the world but he runs hard and fast. Centre will be an interesting matchup but all around the park I think Wales might just have the edge…

That’s a very strong side, and the Aussies must be shitting themselves about now. Pity about Roberts though. He makes a huge difference to that backline. And why Bradley Davis ahead of Alun-Wyn Jones?
