Toulouse clinch Top 14 title
9 Jun 2012
Flyhalf Luke McAlister kicked Toulouse to their 19th French Top 14 title as they downed Toulon 18-12 on Saturday.
It was a kicking contest in the Paris-based final, with defending champions retaining their crown thanks to six McAlister penalties.
Toulon No 10 Jonny Wilkinson made it a close contest in the first half as he was on target on three occasions to force a 9-9 deadlock at half-time.
However, Toulouse capitalised on their opposition’s ill-discipline to snatch victory.
Loosehead prop Gurthro Steenkamp started for the victors, while lock Bakkies Botha and skipper Joe van Niekerk featured for Toulon.

Luke’s obviously talented but fell down the AB pecking order after playing up north post-WC07 & returning to play for the Blues. Then he threw his toys big time, sulking & almost breaching his contract

Great shame that had he stayEd, one wonders that he have had the 10 jersey after Carter, Cruden and Slater all went down, then again, beaver is a better story.
Have your say
