Boishaai edge Paul Roos

GARETH DUNCAN watched Paarl Boys’ hold on for a 22-17 win over Paul Roos in Stellenbosch.

Both teams were confident of securing victory on Paul Roos’s Markotter Fields. Heading into this clash, Paarl Boys’ had won 10 of their 11 fixtures this year, while Paul Roos were enjoying a three-match winning streak.

But it was Boishaai who emerged as the winners as they never relinquished the lead throughout the match. The visitors scored three tries in the first half to hold a 17-10 advantage at the break. Paul Roos narrowed the deficit in the second half and had favourable field position at the death. But the hosts fell short as the final whistle blew to reward a strong and resilient Boishaai defence.

Man of the Match and fullback Darian Hock starred for the victors as he grabbed a brace, while wing Tiaan Mouton and outside centre Dewald Naude also crossed the chalk.

Paul Roos fullback Jason Worral, who will feature for the WP U18 Craven Week side in July, scored 12 of his team’s points via a try, a conversion and a penalty.
