Late blow for Poms

England loosehead prop Alex Corbisiero has been ruled out of the third Test against the Springboks.

Corbisiero was named in the starting line-up after impressing off the bench at Ellis Park, but has been sidelined with a recurrence of a knee problem and replaced with Joe Marler. Paul Doran Jones comes on to the bench.

‘Alex trained well early in the week having played well at the weekend but the knee reacted over the last 24 hours,’ said England coach Stuart Lancaster. ‘It is a shame for Alex as he was desperate to take part but it’s the right thing to put in Joe and we are sure he can build on his performances in the first two Tests.

England – 15 Alex Goode, 14 Chris Ashton, 13 Jonathan Joseph, 12 Manusamoa Tuilagi, 11 Ben Foden, 10 Toby Flood, 9 Danny Care, 8 Thomas Waldrom, 7 James Haskell, 6 Tom Johnson, 5 Geoff Parling, 4 Tom Palmer, 3 Dan Cole, 2 Dylan Hartley (c), 1 Joe Marler.
Subs: 16 Lee Mears, 17 Paul Doran Jones, 18 Mouritz Botha, 19 Phil Dowson, 20 Lee Dickson, 21 Owen Farrell, 22 Brad Barritt.

Getting easier for the Boks now.

    Boks by 10 or more.

Kruger may find it a bit easier going this week when he finally comes on.

@Puma(Puma)-2: Hopefully so,he is a bit of a weak link imo, weather conditions bound to even things out.

@Superbru(Superbru)-3: Yip he struggled last week.

Think without Corbisero he may find it easier going.

Think the bad weather will suit our kicking game.

@Puma(Puma)-4: Yeah,Morne’s kicking out of hand has been pretty good and we’ve got a big left boot at the back in the form of Aplon.

@Superbru(Superbru)-3: He is a weak link, but so is Doran Jones for the English.

AH shame he was brilliant when he came on great for us in the six nations

But another cap for young Joe Marler hopefully he puts an even better performance in

Hes been better than Corbisiero in the premiership but hasnt got that international experience Corbisiero has got needs to learn the tricks

Unfortunately my prediction that our scrum won’t be demolished like in the 2nd half last week regardless of Corbisiero will remain untested. But he is definitely a loss for England because even a small advantage at scrum time can be crucial.

    @John123
I thought Marler held his own in the first 2 tests. I hope Lancaster, sticks with him in the Long term.

Big loss for the Poms, Corbisiero is a far better scrummager than Marler, who at 110kg’s struggles to impose himself in the scrums. If Marler wants to make it as a test prop, he needs to bulk up

This is a bit of a relief.

In the long term Joe Marler will be our number 1 loosehead

Hes a special talent been touted as this next big thing for England

Hes 21 hes only played twice at international level vs Springboks hes been thrown in the deep end

Hes done Ok but we havent seen those trademark big ball carrying runs, big tackles, breaks (Hes probably the quickest prop in the world)

Alex Corbisiero is a talent as well but hes not as explosive as Marler in the loose

Marler’s scrummaging game has improved but he will get even better with more international experience

@john123(john123)-13: The quickest prop in the world, you say? And Big Ben is probably the tallest building on earth, right?

Corbisiero is only 23 or so and is better in my books. A props primary function is to scrum, running with ball in hand and putting in tackles is secondary.

If Marler wants to make it as a test prop he needs to bulk up, failing which he will get exposed at scrum time

Saffex Marler is a tank he doesnt need to bulk up he just needs experience

He scored this try for the England U20s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vgGYjXmtuo

How does a coach turn hero to zero in 8 months ? only in SA

What is the substance behind these claims? Is it real mistreatment or simply a coach who is too hard a taskmaster?

Mistreatment is a strong word to use so be wise about it. Is he simply too hard and too honest on players, and the players cannot handle it? Or is he genuinely abusive?

From what I recall it was the top players at the Force that objected to him. Did they become too precious and believed they needed to be treated with kid gloves?

Lets have some facts before we speculate. Maybe its the players that need to harden the F up? Or maybe Mitchell is a box in Afrikaans?

Last year when everything was good and they won the Currie Cup every Lions player was happy with him now a couple months on there is an issue. I think that the Lions players should stop moaning and get on with things.

Mitchell is a good coach and will be good in the long term for them.

Lions are self distracting perfect news for SARU to kick out them of S15
