Lions coaching panel in disarray

Lions coaching panel in disarray

Forwards coach Johan Ackermann has been officially appointed as the interim head coach of the Lions, with Carlos Spencer continuing his duties as backline mentor.

In the aftermath of John Mitchell’s suspension for his alleged brutal coaching methods, Spencer and Ackermann were last week handed the interim coaching role, a responsibility they would share. Spencer did not dispute this when keo.co.za spoke to him on Monday about the current dynamics at the embattled franchise.

However, it has since come to light that Ackermann has been appointed as the official interim head coach, with Spencer continuing in his role as backline coach.

‘I’m not sure when the decision was made, but I was made aware of [the new coaching structure] late yesterday morning,’ Spencer told keo.co.za on Tuesday. ‘I was only ever under the impression that I would continue to coach the backs.’

Should Mitchell get his marching orders, this could affect Spencer as well as fitness coach Wayne Taylor on a contractual basis. Spencer and Taylor’s contracts are linked to Mitchell’s contract, allowing them to leave the Gauteng franchise at will if Mitchell gets the axe.

‘I haven’t really thought about that to be honest,’ Spencer added. ‘I’m contracted to the end of the Super Rugby season. I guess I’m going to have to make some decisions over the next three weeks.’

If Mitchell and his coaching team are not retained, this would result in the GLRU having to scramble for a new coaching set-up before the Currie Cup, which starts on 11 August.

FYI fried chips fans. Potato has an insanely high glycaemic load. Frying a potato further increases the GL. Anyone can lose weight simply by cutting or eliminating all or most refined & processed food & carbonated & sugary drinks

Yes most do, some guys go for a run during lunchbreaks

The busses have bicycle racks in the front too, if you live way out in the suburbs, you can put your bike on it and ride the bus and when you get to town take it off and use it there and do the same going home

In Cape Town here is a nice bicycle lane from Blouberg Strand to the town. The last person to use it was Helen Zille when she opened it.

Funnily enough it’s not that cold, it’s like Cape Town, wet, cold winters with long warm summers, it’s actually light at about 04:30 and goes dark at 22:00

    They also grow wine here

The guys from Cape Town loves living here, you just replace the Snoek with Salmon

    Have a look

Cape Town is by far the most bicycle friendly city in SA and the bike lane from the Blouberg area to town (about 20 km’s long) is really good and relatively safe. But, as you know, people are lazy, so i dont really know if it gets used often by commuters despite the fact that travelling from that area to town by car in the mornings is a nightmare due to the traffc.

Strangely enough 13C is ok, you get used to it, it’s not that cold you’ll even find Eucalyptus and Banana trees in some gardens, although the latter is just for show not fruit

When I got here it would have been cold, my Pretoria blood was a bit thin, but now it’s ok

We’ve had two cool summers in a row now, but can get hot here, if it goes past 30C, you die because of the humidity and because we’re not used to it anymore

The houses are also made to keep heat in so unfortunately it stays hot inside the house on hot days, unlike in SA where it cools down after dark if you leave the windows open

When they stop the extensive gym training and use of special nutritional supplements they usually revert back to their ‘natural” shape – luckily for Victor he is a natural lean and athletic person and the cycling also helps to keep him in condition – others like Ollie le Roux is not that lucky.
