Lions forced to change two

Lions forced to change two

Injuries have forced interim Lions coach Johan Ackermann to select two new starting props for the match against the Stormers on Saturday.

JC van Rensburg replaces CJ van der Linde at loosehead while Jacobie Adriaanse comes in for Pat Cilliers at tighthead. Van der Linde will face a late fitness test, but will only play from the bench if he is cleared of injury.

Other than the injury-enforced changes, Ackermann has retained the side that started against the Lions in the week before the break. The Lions won 38-28 in that match against the Sharks.

Lions – 15 Andries Coetzee, 14 Deon van Rensburg, 13 Lionel Mapoe, 12 Butch James, 11 Anthonie Volminck, 10 Elton Jantjies, 9 Tian Meyer, 8 Joshua Strauss (c), 7 Grant Hattingh, 6 Derick Minnie, 5 Franco van der Merwe, 4 Hendrik Roodt, 3 Jacobie Adriaanse, 2 Callie Visagie, 1 JC Janse van Rensburg
Subs: 16 Martin Bezuidenhout, 17 CJ van der Linde/Ruaan Dreyer, 18 Ruan Botha, 19 Jaco Kriel, 20 Michael Bondesio, 21 Waylon Murray, 22 Ruan Combrinck

“Ackermann has retained the side that started against the Lions in the week before the break.” No wonder the coach was fired! They played against themselves!

I used to rate CJ v d Linde, but during the last 3 or 4 seasons he seemed to get injured often. I’d like to know if there are statistics available about CJ’s “injuries”: 1) how many times did he have to undergo a fitness test before a match ?; and how many times did he actually pass the fitness test ?
    2) how many times did het get injured while playing and had to be subbed (not for tactical reasons) ? I can recall that he had to be substituted after coming on as a sub himself. Is he not fit enough or why is he so injury prone ?

This will either be small Lions win or Stormers Demolition, no in between this coming Saturday. Stormers to get quick points and it is game set and match – I hope.

Kolisi will be collossal. Be very scared. The Stormers are going to blow the Conference to pieces. We may have to rename Cape Town – KolisiTown :) Kap it vas!

Can anyone of the Lion fans who is predicting an upset, please explain to me why this mob from Joburg can only seemingly win against SA sides, but are always assured of rollingand gifting the Australasian sides bonuspoints on a platter?

And why are their fans seemingly ok with this???

@Craven(Craven)-13: simple, overseas teams are not always better rugby players, they just often out think the SA sides. Playing local derby’s often levels the intellectual playing fields and allows for these kind of upsets, especially when the aggression level as opposed to the skill level is on show.

The lions should’ve had their bye points deducted. They’re the only team capable of losing even when they’re not playing.
